Wet weather discharges present challenges for water utilities. Although many different approaches have been tried, studies show that concerns about regulatory programs for wet weather discharges remain unaddressed. At California Stormwater Quality Association Annual Conference 2024, Exponent’s Susan Paulsen, Ph.D., P.E., will present “Water Quality Compliance During Wet Weather: Lessons and Recommendations.” The session will explore the results of studies, as well as recommendations that US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and states invest in and develop guidance for Clean Water Act programs, including evaluating water quality standards; applying financial capability assessments (FCAs) and compliance schedules to prioritize permit implementation over time; and enabling the use of sustainable, nature-based solutions. Join the session at 11:15-11:40 a.m. PDT. Register: https://hubs.li/Q02V7T6Y0 Connect with Dr. Paulsen: https://hubs.li/Q02V7Rsg0 #Exponent #Event #WaterQuality #Compliance #EarthSciences

New analysis of the raw data underlying the 2022 Clean Watershed Needs Survey, published by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has revealed the American wastewater agencies with the largest future investment plans related to #stormwater management, #wastewater collection, and #watertreatment. Since the surveys last assessment in 2012, the reported spending requirements have snowballed significantly from $336 billion to $630.1 billion. But what are these rising costs? It’s worrying to read that efforts to clean up England’s rivers, lakes and seas have been described as poor. Watchdog The Office for Environmental Protection (OEP), a statutory body, said that the government is going to miss its target to improve water quality because its plans need more funding, commitment and detail. Only 16% of our waterways are rated as having Good Ecological Status, but the government’s target is to have this increase to 77% by 2027. The OEP report says this isn’t going to be achieved and 21% is more likely. At Suprafilt Ltd, we’re proud to supply and install aeration systems that contribute to cleaning up the wastewater discharged into rivers, lakes and the sea. Through our commitment to continuous innovation into our technology, we strike to make a positive impact on the environment through carbon reduction and energy-saving methods. I hope greater efforts will go into improving water health – hopefully this report should serve as a wake-up call for those in power.

We are so excited to introduce our comprehensive water quality database (https://lnkd.in/g7BbBXz7) for the U.S. Why is this needed? Most people do not have a clear understanding of their water quality. While public information is often available, there is not a user friendly way to access a comprehensive set of water quality data based on location. This is very much needed to make an informed decision about your water filtration needs. What sets our water quality database apart is its integration of water quality data from multiple authoritative sources (EWG, EPA, ECHO, USGS), ensuring a complete and detailed picture of water quality across the United States. Our health standards also go beyond the legal limit (which is often set too low). We benchmark our recommendations against several industry standards to provide a comprehensive view of potential risks. Check it out and let me know what you think!

🚨 Big News Alert – an argument over combined sewer regulations is headed to the Supreme Court! Its outcome could set a new standard for managing sewer systems in the U.S. ⚖️💧 San Francisco is suing the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for setting unclear rules about how much sewage local wastewater treatment and collection facilities can release into the ocean. The lawsuit claims that, despite the city investing billions in infrastructure to meet Clean Water Act requirements, the federal standards are too vague, making compliance impossible. The court's decision might reshape regulations for combined sewer systems across the U.S., potentially prescribing new management practices and limits on pollution discharge. 🌊 The result could have a huge impact on public health and the environment. Read more about the situation via the link and stay tuned to see how this unfolds! 🌿⚖️ - https://lnkd.in/gU_Hmtzs #Sewers #CombinedSewers #EnvironmentalJustice #SupremeCourt #Sustainability
