See a critical review by Serah Sanni, PhD. of “Witness Protection and Criminal Justice in Africa: Nigeria in International Perspective” by Suzzie Oyakhire, PhD. "The review reflects on specific aspects adopted in discussing witness protection and the complexities surrounding its practice in the Nigerian context as presented by the author.... Notably, an interdisciplinary approach is evident in the book’s reliance on data from various fields; criminal law, criminal justice, criminology, human rights, and international law, providing a well-rounded foundation for the analysis. The comparative perspective, incorporating advanced jurisdictions like the US, Australia, UK, and Canada, as well as emerging trends from South Africa, Kenya, Brazil, and Mexico, enriches the discussion and positions the Nigerian case study within a global context. The chapter acknowledges the largely descriptive nature of scholarly literature on witness protection, paving the way for the book's unique contribution in conceptual and legal clarification." https://lnkd.in/eRdJhtX2

I'm thrilled to participate as a panelist at the upcoming University of Haifa University of Haifa, Faculty of Law 's Day of Study on "Truth in Truth: Criminal Law and Media in the Digital Age." My expertise in leveraging strategic litigation and communication (in the sense of "media") will be a focal point during the discussion. Through extensive research conducted alongside top litigators, I've delved into the crucial role of media as a tool in media high-profile cases and those with the potential for significant media attention. My research also explores the concerning gaps in access to justice, particularly for those in peripheral regions who may be disadvantaged by the communication-litigation divide compared to their counterparts in central Israel. This Day of Study promises to be a stimulating exchange of ideas. I look forward to joining fellow experts from law, criminology, and journalism as we dissect the intricate relationship between the criminal justice system and the media landscape in the digital age. The day is scheduled to begin with a keynote address by Professor Oren Gazal Ayal, the head of the Center for Crime, Law, and Society at Haifa University. Professor Ayal will explore with Dr. Sharon Rabinovitz Shenkar the challenges of ensuring public trust in the criminal justice system in an era of social media and 24/7 news coverage. The next session will feature a panel discussion on the role of social media in alternative justice spaces. The panelists will delve into how social media is being used to create new forms of accountability and justice outside of the traditional criminal justice system. Looking forward to meet Chen Maanit from the Haaretz news outlet. The final session is set to be a panel discussion on law enforcement and the media. The panelists (me included) will address the challenges of managing public information in the face of media scrutiny. I anticipate this day of study to be both informative and thought-provoking. It presents a valuable opportunity to learn about the latest research on the intersection of criminal law and media. I highly recommend this event to anyone interested in this topic. #CriminalLaw #MediaLaw #StrategicLitigation #Communication #AccessToJustice #HaifaUniversity #communication_Litigation #A2J #Access_to_Justice
