There are different FDIs investing in strategic sectors, but there is little effort and processes in place to monitor and assess their impact, also in terms of quality contribution to economic #development. 🔗 The recent introduction of the Standard Draft By-Law by Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa is a promising step toward empowering township economies. (Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dkFFYcba) I’ve seen firsthand the challenges and potential within these communities. In 2020, I led a study assessing township economies’ viability for LGSETA, focusing on skills gaps that hinder economic growth. 🔍 Key insights: 1️⃣ Township entrepreneurs are driven by social impact but face barriers like limited municipal support and resources. 2️⃣ Local Economic Development (LED) officials often lack the skills needed to drive meaningful change. 3️⃣ Municipalities must improve communication, infrastructure support, and partnerships to truly empower these entrepreneurs. Moving forward, we need targeted skills development, better governance, and innovative support structures to unlock the full potential of these local economic hubs.
