Today marks the end of my journey at EY. And in my case, it has been a truly incredible journey. I joined almost 17 years ago as an Engagement Analyst in London, and leave as a Milan-based Partner. But it's not the start or end point that really matter, it's what you do in-between. For me that "in-between" has been packed with working with great people, projects and clients, and I couldn't do justice to my "almost 17 years" in one LinkedIn post. What I can do though is reflect on my journey, and what would I say to that ambitious 25 year-old, who walked through the revolving doors of MLP for the first time on 1st October 2007? 🏆 The first thing I would tell him is he made the right choice! EY has presented me with countless opportunities, a move into Consulting, a CIMA qualification, working with the worlds largest Consumer Product & Retail organisations, travel across the globe 🌎, a transfer to Italy 🇮🇹 ... and pathway from a back office Finance role to becoming part of EMEIA Finance & GBS Consulting Leadership. Navigating and taking the many opportunities that came my way didn't happen by chance, it is testament to EY as a firm and those around me who made it happen 🚀 The second thing, and I would be lying if I said it was easy, is to understand everyone's journey is different. I had a few setbacks, but it is how you bounce back from those setbacks and what you can learn from the difficult periods, that set you up for success. I remember being told as a junior I didn't have what it takes to become a Manager, by a Director in the team. A tough message but it helped reset and come up with a plan to get to the next level, which I achieved within 2 years 📈 Last (but definitely not least), it's all about the people. My personal journey could not have gone the way it did without the help of others. I was lucky enough to find mentors and coaches at each step of the journey. People who I looked up to and aspired to be like in 2-3 years, who pushed me and made me look at things differently, and helped me to grow Will Cooper, Faisal Iftikhar, Andy Furniss (RIP 🙏), Dom Hollis, Ben Castell, Maria Saggese to name a few. I just hope I've repaid the favour to others along the way! As I sign off later today it will hit home what I am leaving behind.. as a card from my Italian team translates "Good luck... in finding better colleagues than us". And they are right. I have had the privilege of working with so many great people and great teams during my time here. But as this chapter (or book) closes, I look forward to starting a new adventure as I take the next step on my journey, and what the next "in-between" holds...

It's been a month since I joined EY as an Associate Consultant, and so far, it's been a fascinating journey. In the initial days, I felt confused and questioned whether I had made the right decision to join the corporate world. Balancing my studies and work was a significant concern. But what I've learned so far is that everything takes time, and each passing day in the corporate world teaches you something new. Here are a few key lessons I've learned so far: 1) Explore Extensively: Take every opportunity to explore and learn. The more you delve into different areas, the more you'll grow. 2) Engage Actively: Immerse yourself in diverse tasks and responsibilities to sharpen your skills. 3) Embrace Responsibility: Taking on responsibility helps build trust and showcases your capabilities. 4) Maintain Boundaries: Establish clear boundaries for yourself to balance work and personal life effectively. I may not have extensive firsthand experience working under extreme pressure and long hours, apart from a few occasions where I voluntarily extended my hours, but I'd like to share my thoughts on the recent EY incident. I have friends currently working or who have previously worked at Big 4 firms and other consulting companies. Many of them describe the work environment as a highly structured form of exploitation. How does this happen? The issue, in my view, stems from two main factors: increasing billable hours and overcommitment by managers. In these firms, there are typically two kinds of management – those who don’t fully understand how long tasks take and those who are overly ambitious. To impress clients and senior management, they make unrealistic promises, often putting undue pressure on junior staff. My advice: if possible, avoid these companies. But if you find yourself in that environment, be mentally and physically prepared to handle the challenges. Stand your ground and don’t let others take advantage of you. The professional world can be tough, so it’s important to be resilient and assertive. #EY #BiG4 #consulting

Do you know what we learned from reading 4000 Glassdoor.com reviews about the Big Four? That Ernst & Young (EY - shown in blue) is the only one that is clearly separable for some reason.. The rest (KPGM, PwC, Deloitte) are so similar that our GroupFinder cannot tell them apart. But why? It's hard to tell at first glance.. But they (especially group 4 & 5) complain the most about work-life balance (or the lack of) both in scores and written text. They also think the worst about senior management compared to other firms and refrain to say anything about the CEO the most. Finally, the share of reviews coming from early (1-3) and mid tenure (3-5) people is also a lot higher. 🚨 𝙈𝙮 𝙀𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙀𝙔 - 𝙀𝙧𝙣𝙨𝙩 & 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙜 🚨 As someone who has been with EY for nearly a year and a half, I feel compelled to share my perspective amidst the heartbreaking news of Anna Sebastian's passing. My thoughts are with her family during this incredibly difficult time. However, while such incidents are tragic and demand introspection, I believe it’s unfair to paint an entire organization, or every individual within it, with the same brush. In my last 1.5 Years at EY, I’ve found an environment filled with support, from my partners, managers, counselors and buddy, which fosters camaraderie and growth. Yes, corporate life can be intense, but every profession carries its pressures -whether you're a doctor, pilot, or working in any high-stakes field. EY is no different, and we knew this when we chose these roles. The rewards, both in terms of growth and compensation, come with responsibility, and sometimes, that means going the extra mile. It’s unfortunate that some former employees or those who have never worked at EY are quick to cast judgment without truly understanding the environment. I’ve seen firsthand how many of these same people continue to hold on to their ‘Big Four’ identities long after they’ve left, and it’s because of the pride and opportunities that come with working in such organizations. It’s disheartening to see generalizations made based on isolated incidents. We all know the corporate world isn’t without stress, but it’s also a place of immense opportunity and personal growth.
