To experience a new era, we must stop waging war and commit ourselves to making the planet liveable for all by working towards the perspective of eco-modernism and technological humanism. Following both of these philosophies can lead us into a new period of well-being. Time to put shoulders to the wheel, to strengthen international cooperation, and share the earth's treasures more fairly. Start with https://lnkd.in/dGKuiApg

Imagine a future Arctic that is vibrant in its ecosystems, culture and economy? There was a lot of talk about a future vision for the Arctic at the recent Arctic Ecounters Sympoisum in Anchorage https://lnkd.in/d84CyUQa. The future is not written, we have the power to shape the future we want and dont have to accept a version others may want to impose. Articulating those visions is key - I wrote down mine here https://lnkd.in/dQFFRdT7 (pages 229-239).

The challenges of today go beyond deadlines decided by governments, territorial claims of oceans and lands, or borders drawn on a map. Addressing global issues is a shared responsibility that requires collaborative efforts and swift decision-making. By dismantling the barriers between science, business, and policy, we can deepen communication and enhance our understanding of the pan-Arctic ecosystem, making each of us feel empowered and integral to the solution. Modern challenges, such as the impacts of climate change, fostering sustainable development, and navigating political tensions, are deeply interconnected. While the green transition's financial, societal, and environmental costs will not be fairly distributed worldwide, the Arctic holds a significant role in our global solutions. We hope to see you next year at the Arctic Frontiers 2025 Conference in Tromsø, Norway on the 27th - 30th of January.

61% of G20 citizens are concerned and support action for the environment. While this is reassuring and inspiring otmimism - these days we all crave for good news- let’s pause and think. If all these people care, why much of this same majority elect governments that do not support actions for the environment? In fact, globally, environmental policies are been dismantled by new elected governments including the #EU. The uncomfortable truth is that environment, nature, climate are still not a priority for the majority of citizens, who are more concerned over growth, inflation, migration and other socio-ecomic issues perceived as more directly affecting their lives. We need to connect the dots…making environment degradation personal as well as the benefits of rebalancing our relationship with #nature. I believe this is the missing piece of the narrative.
Planetary Stewards, Concerned Optimists, and Steady Progressives: they all support action for long-term stewardship of Earth, and together they make up 61% of G20* citizens. The Planetary Steward Segments, a new analysis by Ipsos UK for Earth4All and Global Commons Alliance, offer a nuanced view of how different groups perceive and engage with the challenges of planetary stewardship. 🙌 This is good news - a survey in 18 countries (G20) shows that a majority of citizens want to see action to protect the planet NOW 🌎. "Planetary Stewards, Concerned Optimists and Steady Progressives comprised the majority (61%) of respondents. This marks a social tipping point, where more people care for, and want action to protect, the planet than those who do not." https://lnkd.in/e5bgcAqQ 👉 another piece of evidence that policy initiatives such as the 🇪🇺 #EuropeanGreenDeal can be successful, and a call for the newly elected European Parliament to engage with citizens and come up with action plans on how societies can answer the rapidly accelerating planetary crisis. These finds by Ipsos UK Earth4All and the Global Commons Alliance confirm : "Citizens would vote for the Green Deal if only they knew about it." 👀 https://lnkd.in/e-yWWtd5 (article written before the 🇪🇺 elections on behalf of ECOLISE - the European network of community-led initiatives on climate change and sustainability) 🙏 #earthforall
