Life on the road can be challenging, full of long stretches away from home, endless highways, and solitude. But sometimes, you find a companion who makes the miles feel a little shorter and the days a lot brighter.
For FERCAM driver Arkady Mihai, that companion is Valery, his inseparable four-legged friend. Their journey together began under extraordinary circumstances during a historic snowstorm in Kyiv. Since then, they’ve covered over 1 million kilometers, sharing countless adventures across Europe and beyond 🌍
«Valery is more than a dog; he’s my partner on this endless road. He’s been with me every step of the way, through rain, snow, and sunshine. I can’t imagine the journey without him», Arkady says.
From appearing on TV to sharing the cabin of a truck, their story is one of loyalty, friendship, and life on the move. Valery has been to nearly every corner of Europe, making him one of the most well-traveled dogs out there! 🐾

'The most Guerrero of the Guerreros' #TheRickestRick
By now you've probably been bombarded by ads for the Ridley Scott cash grab, I mean, sequel to his famous #Gladiator#AreYouNotEntertained
While Hollywood regales you with cliched, invented stories of the #HeroWith1000Faces there's a little known story that has lasted over 500 years, one of the most incredible that has yet to be deemed worthy of the silver screen. Rumor has it Roland Emmerich has bought the rights to one of the more recent tellings, but you have to go back to the source material, one of the earliest writings about the conquest of New Spain, to appreciate its durability. I, myself didn't know it until my 1st course in #PoliticalEconomy#IAS45 where Bernal Diaz de Castillo was required reading.
His story is mentioned almost as an afterthought, a quixotic side note to the tale of how Europeans gunpowdered their way through the Americas. But the more you look at it, the more fascinating it becomes. A Spanish soldier pursuing fortune in a new land, shipwrecked off the Yucatan, enslaved by a beachfront tribe, who makes a break for it only to end up with a neighboring tribe. There he rises up the ranks to become a prominent leader of the community, inter-marrying, fighting, and eventually dying to protect America from Spanish invaders. As would only be appropriate to the mythology of such a legendary life, he died the noblest death a Guerrero can experience, on the battlefield at the ripe old age of 66.
Many contemporaries would go on to tell versions of his life and death, so it's hard to tell how much of it is true (saving his chief by fighting an alligator seems a bit much). Spaniards would have an incentive to diminish his accomplishments over his defiance of the kingdoms of Fernando and Carlos, Maya records would have been destroyed by conquering armies. In spite of all that, his story lingers as inspiration for what the warrior spirit can endure for a just cause. It goes without saying that for me, he's served as a role model from the day I discovered the story of his life.
In this day and age a life worthy of legend is pretty impossible to achieve, but that doesn't mean we can't hold him as the standard bearer for what the warrior clan can do against all odds. So here's to another 500 years of Gonzalo's life and many more for the Guerrero clan to keep telling people about it.

Curious about what is special with ships that are built for sailing in polar waters, I can reccomend this film by Lindblad Expeditions Expeditions where Captain Martin Graser explain the important features of such vessel.
