#Multigenerational #forests, i.e. forests where trees are unevenly aged, is another method that increases forests' #ecosystem services: it sustains the forest cover and provides income from timber at more frequent intervals, minimizes regeneration costs and provides many #wildlife habitat and #recreational benefits. #SaveForests #RethinkAction

It's not about how much it rains, it's about how much you infiltrate!! This year at my ranch we only got 3 inches of rain and yet, we were able to grow a substantial amount of grass because of the soil aggregation of sandy clay and silt particles, creating the necessary pore space for water and oxygen to reach deeper into the soil. These aggregates are formed by the root exudates of our native warm season grasses and diverse vegetation. The high plant species diversity allows for healthy soil microbes to function. Purple Loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria) is a wetland invasive plant. It has purple flowers arranged on flower spikes. It’s stem, which makes it recognizable, is square shaped with 4-6 sides. Each plant can produce 2.7 million seeds every, single, year. It wreaks havoc on aquatic ecosystems. Purple loosestrife can grow in dense patches along shorelines, making it difficult to get in and out of the water. It can overtake valuable habitat, out-competing native and usable vegetation. As well, the dense root system can change the hydrology of a wetland. #AquaticInvasiveSpecies #PullthePlug #StopAquaticInvasiveSpecies #CleanDrainDry
