The Controllers-General of cash: you find them at every bus stop and junction, charging exorbitant fees. This morning, I paid a charge of ₦300 for a ₦5,000 withdrawal from one of them and still had to pay additional charges to the Federal Government. On top of that, my bank will charge me a commission. 80% of bank ATMs don't have cash, yet these POS operators always seem to have it. Who is draining the cash? Who is creating this scarcity? Where are these POS operators getting their cash from? Is the CBN truly monitoring its policy on cash disbursement and availability? I just don't understand. Should the government, bankers, or POS agents be blamed for this? On another note, the pump price of PMS has just dropped. Has it reflected on transport fares? I know that when the pump price increases, transport fares rise immediately. So why doesn’t a dip in the pump price reflect in the same way? Should the government be held accountable for this too? Àwa rárá wa la n se r'awa. Eniyan n se rárá, ó ń parọ m'áyé. Merry Christmas to the faithful ones.

No more blended merchant pricing plans from Westpac. One of Australia’s largest banks has called for an unwinding of the “blended” pricing structures that push retailers to impose surcharges on everyday debit card users who wear the cost of paying for airline points and other perks promoted by credit card schemes" Reserve Bank of Australia Dr Brad Jones said Thursday “Users of cheaper card payments are effectively subsidising the users of more expensive cards,” Blended pricing also avoids so-called “least-cost routing”, which allows retailers to choose the cheapest system to process their payments. #payments PAYDAY NEWS Warwick Ponder Gabby Taylor Ellis Connolly AACS (Australian Association of Convenience Stores) Australasian Convenience and Petroleum Marketers Association (ACAPMA) Australian Hotels Association NSW National Retail Association Australian Lottery and Newsagents' Association NewsXpress MGA Independent Businesses Australia Peter Drennan Australian Payments Plus

With policy interventions that incentivise digital payments, we can accelerate the adoption of Digital Financial Services and significantly grow Digital Supply Chain Finance. The impact of such policy interventions is evident with the exponential growth in State Bank of Pakistan (SBP)’s Raast initiative where the users now stand at 35 million, with 1 in 2 Raast users being a JazzCash customer. JazzCash hosts the country’s largest merchant ecosystem, with over 300,000 payment points accepted nationwide. This is supplemented by a 245,000-strong agent network that facilitates customers with cash withdrawals and deposits. This extensive network allows us to digitise over PKR 100 billion each month, serving a customer base of 44 million.
