This week we had the privilege to participate in the #SPINE project demonstration event, hosted by MSE International at the University of Plymouth. The event marked a pivotal moment in maritime innovation, showcasing the incredible progress in autonomous systems connectivity, communication and port energy modelling. A key highlight was the on water demonstration of autonomous vessel technology, a leap towards a more sustainable and decarbonised shipping industry. As part of the SPINE consortium, we played a key role in developing and testing these groundbreaking solutions. Special thanks to Lewis Seymour-Pugh for overseeing our involvement, and to all partners in our consortium, Frequentis and MarRI-UK for their collaboration over the past two years. Proud to share that yesterday we brought together some of the brightest minds in autonomous inland and short-sea shipping for a panel at #ICMASS! Taking the stage to represent the AUTOFLEX HEU Project were Kristoffer Kloch from DFDS and Øyvind Pedersen from Maritime Robotics AS. For FOREMAST, Tomas Ambra from INLECOM and Matko Barisic from ABB participated, while Ann-Sofie Pauwelyn from ZULU Associates represented ReNEW, and Morten Ingebretsen from Kongsberg Maritime spoke on behalf of SEAMLESS Project. The discussion was expertly moderated by Odd Erik Mørkrid from SINTEF Ocean. The panel delved into recent advancements in autonomous shipping technology and the work still needed to advance logistics automation. Industry partners emphasized the lasting value of commitment in research projects, noting that early-stage product development, strategic networking, increased visibility, and financial backing are essential for sustainable growth and innovation in this sector. The main takeaway? Panelists agreed that autonomous vessel development must be purposeful, driving practical, business-aligned solutions in maritime logistics. SEG DIELECTRIQUES participated in the first edition of #InnoDay, an inspirational day of meetings organized by the Aerospace Valley competitiveness cluster to boost innovation projects for SMEs and startups in the aerospace, space, and drone sectors in La Région Occitanie / Pyrénées-Méditerranée and Région Nouvelle-Aquitaine. As a winner of the #Challengeavionvert, in partnership with ERNEO and the University of Montpellier, we were able to showcase our project on thermal conductivity and improving heat transfer in motors. The goal of this project is to test and validate solutions to better manage heat in electric motors, especially in the context of aviation electrification. With the increase in power and voltage in these motors (from 115 V to 540/800 V), it becomes essential to find ways to improve thermal efficiency, as poor heat management can reduce the performance and lifespan of the motor. This project aims to demonstrate that by optimizing the thermal insulation of electric motors using new materials, we can improve their efficiency, lifespan, and performance, which is crucial for electric aviation.
