This discussion paper on the need to shift education from closed to open systems is a brilliant summary of how we need to evolve. The challenges and opportunities are very in sync with the Apiary’s Future System Principles and our over-arching objective of re-shaping early learning with children’s and families’ voices at the centre. The style of learning proposed is not new, in fact as part of the Apiary’s cultural responsiveness journey we have learned that subjective education experiences have been embedded in First Nations collaborative culture for about 60-80,000 years and more. Interested how current reforms might be a stepping stone to a future system! Read the Apiary’s Future System Principles here: https://lnkd.in/g6vxyGCi And definitely check out the resources below from System Innovation Network!

Navigating UCAS Applications with Insights from the University of Edinburgh A huge thank you to the University of Edinburgh for hosting such an informative webinar, providing invaluable insights into the evolving UCAS application process. Watch the webinar here: https://lnkd.in/eZS37hzs Key highlights from the session: Admissions Trends: A drop of 5% in applications. This is still higher than in 2020. The webinar shed light on fluctuations in application and offer rates over recent years, especially following the pandemic. With increasing competition in certain fields like law, engineering, and computer science, understanding these trends is essential for supporting students effectively. Fee Status & Diversity: The explanation of Scotland's unique fee status system and its impact on admissions was particularly enlightening, alongside the university's diverse student population representing over 180 countries. Personal Statements: Edinburgh emphasised the importance of personal statements, particularly in showcasing motivation, skills, and relevant experiences. This is critical for differentiating candidates, especially for competitive programmes. UCAS Reference Changes: The university highlighted its preference for the new UCAS reference format, which makes it easier to extract meaningful context about students' circumstances and readiness for university study. Looking Ahead: Changes to personal statements for 2026 entry were outlined, with a move to a structured question format aimed at simplifying the process while maintaining the depth of content. Thank you, Edinburgh. Very useful. #UCAS2025 #UniversityAdmissions #EdinburghUniversity #HigherEducation #PersonalStatements
