Are you thinking, "I've seen that image before"? If you've been following me since January, you have ... but today it's slightly different. The map shows the states where we haven't yet served anyone with Changing Focus: Moving From We to Me. In January, Michigan was among those states...but, we have an alum there now. This is where I'm hoping my 🤞who-luck🤞 works. It's a term coined by my friend and mentor, John C. Maxwell, that refers to the people you come across accidentally or because you got yourself to the right place OR because you asked someone the question, "Who do you know that I should know?" Today, that's what I'm doing...and, yes, if you're reading this, I'm asking YOU. WHO do you know who should participate in a cohort of Changing Focus: Moving From We to Me? It's for service members and military spouses, of all ranks from all services, who are transitioning to the civilian sector, AND veterans of any era who want to reset their transition...in the virtual arena. What should someone who participates in a cohort expect to do or get? They'll spend 24 hours over four days with us, 🍏 Discovering why change is so challenging and how to use their mind to overcome it, 🍏 Finding their purpose and create a vision plan for their future, and 🍏 Learning about living an intentional life, one filled with THEIR purpose. 🍏 They'll take communications and financial assessments to better understand their behaviors and habits, and 🍏 Receive individual resume and LinkedIn profile reviews. 🍏 Along the way, they'll play with Lego bricks and paint! 🥳 It's FREE to all participants. We'll send them a box with everything they'll need in it for their cohort except for a cup of water. Lets face it, choosing a SkillBridge program can be daunting. The DoD web site is clunky and doesn't offer much insight to the roughly 4850 options you can filter through. There is no one right answer as to which one is the best. That's a personal choice dependent on your situation and what path you want to take post-military. Here's why I chose Allegiant Vets: 1. Access to a vast community of vets at all stages of transition to network and learn from. The Discord has channels dedicated to VA support, job fairs, education and self care just to name a few. 2. Participation in an encouraging environment. 3. Various learning paths to choose from and the ability to change course if you find it isn't for you. 4. The flexibility to participate from my home anywhere in the world and I make my schedule. 5. Am able to start and finish my SkillBridge with AV on my timeline and am not dependent on a cohort. 6. The freedom to apply to any company or entity I want vice relying on only a possibility of interviewing and getting hired at a company I had just interned for 3 months with. As the wife of an Army veteran I’ve seen the bias involved in transitioning from military to civilian work first hand. These amazing individuals bring teamwork, tenacity, leadership, diversity and innovation to their civilian jobs every day. Many also carry life experiences that leave them forever changed by physical disability, hearing loss, and PTSD. This week, time is on my mind—and frankly, it’s always on my mind. It’s one of the most valuable resources I have, so it’s important that I invest it wisely. Yet often, I talk with people who don’t fully understand that it’s a finite resource. We can recycle, reuse, or repurpose almost everything in life, but that’s just not possible with time. When I finish writing this post, the time I have used to do so will be gone. Forever. I won’t be able to get it back. You won’t be able to get back the time you spend reading this either, so I feel a responsibility to make it worthwhile. Thus, I’ll get to the chase.
