LGBTQ+ youth deserve to be supported and affirmed, whether in their families or foster care. Yet, while progress has been made, there are still harmful attacks on LGBTQ+ people and in particular, trans youth. As we near 2025, it is crucial that policies recognize and respect LGBTQ+ identities and eliminate harmful policies and practices. Research shows that affirming homes, schools, and communities help LGBTQ+ youth thrive. Sadly, many face barriers, especially in foster care, where 30% identify as LGBTQ+. It's time to ensure LGBTQ+ youth have access to supportive, inclusive services and environments. The federal government has made strides in protecting LGBTQ+ youth, including banning conversion therapy and ensuring access to gender-affirming care. However, we must continue to build on this momentum and ensure LGBTQ+ youth have access to affirming support, especially in foster care. It’s crucial we reject harmful policies and invest in inclusive communities that support all children’s well-being. Learn more about affirming LGBTQ+ youth and building strategies for communities and child welfare systems in this blog by CSSP Senior Associate, Alexandra Citrin. https://lnkd.in/gsu-pY4R #CSSP5for2025 #lgbtqia #genderaffirmingcare #mentalhealthmatters #wellness

Today is the inaugural 988 Day to raise awareness of 988, the national suicide crisis hotline. Did you know that autistic individuals are 9 times more likely to die by suicide, while also being far less likely to receive the support they need when in crisis? That’s because while the current suicide prevention system offers specialized support for high-risk groups like veterans and the LGBTQ+ community, it falls short of addressing the unique needs of autistic individuals, including differences in communication and sensory triggers. As someone on the spectrum, I can tell you firsthand how critical this issue is. That's why I'm launching Project 988, to raise awareness now and begin building a suicide crisis support hotline for autistic individuals. We cannot afford to overlook this glaring oversight any longer—lives depend on it. Stay tuned for updates, and join me in pushing for change. Together, we can make a difference. #988Day #Project988 #AutismAwareness #MentalHealth #CrisisSupport

Along with some colleagues, I wrote this blog about the importance of observing #NationalFosterCareMonth and the impact of a new federal rule issued by the Biden-Harris administration that strengthens protections for LGBTQ+ youth in foster care systems. Check it out! 🏳️🌈

Traditional family benefits don't work for modern families. Only 37% of adults aged 25-49 live with spouse and children. The rest are single parents, LGBTQ+ families, pet parents, those struggling with fertility, childless families by choice, and multi-generational caregivers. Your benefits need to evolve with your people. See how leading companies are building truly inclusive family support: https://hubs.li/Q02-lN_90 #FamilyBenefits #EmployeeBenefits #LifestyleBenefits

From a young age, many of us are taught that only biological families are “real” or “valid,” but this perspective overlooks the true essence of family. Adoption is a powerful act of love that should be celebrated, not overshadowed by outdated stereotypes and myths. Adoption offers children a second chance at having a loving home and has been shown to improve outcomes in education, emotional health and social relationships. It’s not just for heterosexual couples; LGBTQ+ couples, single people, and those with disabilities can also provide the safe, nurturing environment every child deserves. Despite misconceptions about adoption being difficult or risky, many families successfully navigate the process with the help of available resources and support systems. It's time to challenge the stigma and focus on the positive impact adoption has on lives. Let’s share accurate information, reduce fear and create a supportive environment for all adoptive families. Together, we can make adoption a more accessible and joyful path for everyone involved. Same-sex couples have had the right to adopt in the UK since 2002, following the Adoption and Children Act 2002. Since then, the number of children adopted by lesbian, gay, bi or trans parents has grown year on year. Last week was LGBTQ+ Fostering and Adoption Week and to celebrate, we spoke with Martin about his experience of adopting through Barnardo's. We’re here to help adopters and foster parents every step of the way and are proud to have a wonderfully diverse community of parents. The latest figures published by the English government’s Department for Education show that 1 in 6 adoptions in 2020 were to same-sex couples, which was the highest proportion since records began. Like Martin and his three children, adoption brings so much joy to the children and the adopters we support. Whether you have always been interested in adopting, or have just started to think about it, we are here to help every step of the way. Learn more➡️ https://bit.ly/4a2a6rE
