LFP batteries coming close to the same volumetric density as traditional batteries BYD is currently developing a second-generation blade battery system, which will be released in August 2024 at the earliest. The new generation blade battery due to its module-less design integrates the battery cells into the battery pack. In layman’s terms this increases the volumetric density of the battery, generating lighter thinner batteries, with longer battery life and driving range. This LFP battery also performs better than previous batteries in terms of safety and thermal management performance (penetration test). Density of the 2nd gen battery is expected to be 190Wh/kg, higher than the blade gen 1 battery of 150Wh/kg a 26% upgrade. The smaller and lighter battery is expected to increase the distance of the battery range by about 100km and ensure in the future that BYD meets it goal of 1000km batteries on one charge The second Gen battery is ensuring that LFP batteries are similar power output close to that of more traditional batteries which are more expensive, providing BYD and Chinese manufacturers with a price advantage over some of the legacy OEMs BYD's big move is on the way: the second generation of blade battery upgrade - fast technology - technology changes the future (mydrivers.com)

Together with our partners Rolls-Royce and Singapore Aero Engine Services Private Limited (SAESL), we commemorated the completion of our Smart Manufacturing Joint Lab (SMJL), launched in 2017 with a S$68 million investment. The SMJL focused on developing next-generation aerospace manufacturing and MRO capabilities enabled by advanced processes, automation and digital technologies. Key achievements of SMJL: ✅ Innovative technologies: Implemented 18 cutting-edge technologies across Rolls-Royce’s and SAESL’s manufacturing facilities, which yielded significant process enhancements and cost savings of approximately S$6 million for the companies ✅ Industry collaboration: Collaborated with over 200 SMEs to co-develop and co-deploy new technologies ✅ SME empowerment: Through our collaboration, local SME Zincode Technologies Pte Ltd not only helped Rolls-Royce improve its productivity at Seletar Campus, but also improved its own image processing capabilities.
