#MeetOurTeam: Marguerite Sheehan, Utility Advisor Moonshot Missions is comprised of passionate team members who strive to make a difference for communities in need. As a Utility Advisor, a large part of Marguerite’s role is gathering background information on the communities Moonshot assists so that our team of experts can provide recommendations for improvement. Another aspect of her role is assisting communities with the projects they take on to improve their systems. Marguerite loves learning about the communities we work with and traveling to see their wastewater treatment systems; she also enjoys the diversity of projects she works on because she is learning about the industry she’s passionate about. “One thing that people may not realize that Moonshot does is provide aid to decentralized water and wastewater systems, not just utilities; decentralized water and wastewater systems can fall through the cracks because they are small, harder to assist, and a lot of organizations don’t work with them.” While browsing LinkedIn, Marguerite found Moonshot Missions and knew it was the team she wanted to join because the work provides technical assistance to small and disadvantaged communities and their utility operators. “Moonshot is a unique place to work because our team is diverse in many ways, including experience, culture, and location; this diversity is something our organization can utilize to provide relevant, considerate, and innovative recommendations to our clients.” Marguerite says, “At Moonshot, helping communities provide safe drinking water and wastewater services is only limited by our imagination.” Outside of work, Marguerite’s interests can be broken down into four categories: musical theater, all things nerdy, crafting, and reclaiming her Diné culture. 🌟 What an inspiring and insightful experience at the TechMosaic event by Immigrant Techies Alberta! 🌟 One of the biggest highlights for me was the breakout session where Ben Mitchell shared his thoughts on the evolution of cloud computing and how companies are leveraging it to enhance efficiency while driving down costs. I was fascinated by some of the innovative use cases he mentioned, like: Facial recognition for pigs to accurately map gestation periods—what an incredible application of technology in agriculture! Using a weather API with GPS to calculate the most efficient travel routes where cold temperatures prevail, thus reducing both travel time and costs associated with cold storage. This session really broadened my view on how technology can be applied in such diverse and unexpected ways across industries. Another standout moment for me was the panel discussion on how employers think while hiring or scouting for talent. It gave me valuable insight into the employer's perspective, especially when Minaoar Hossain Tanzil emphasized that finding the right fit is a two-way street—it's about being selective and intentional when applying for roles, rather than applying for every job that comes along. I also learned some exciting news from Brad Perry, who spoke about the collaborative efforts to transform Calgary from being seen as just an oil and gas city into a hub for diverse industries and opportunities. It’s inspiring to see the momentum building in our city for new growth and innovation!
