The Global Opportunity Youth Network (GOYN), a multi-stakeholder initiative hosted at The Aspen Institute and managed in partnership with GDI, has wrapped up an incredible week hosting its 5th Annual Global Convening in #Pune! Our GDI team facilitated engaging sessions alongside 300+ youth leaders and partners from over 15 communities across Africa, India, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Beyond the invaluable knowledge exchange, we witnessed the power of authentic connections through: 🇮🇳 Cultural immersion in Indian hospitality 📣 Youth-led discussions sharing lived experiences 🤝 Community marketplace showcasing local entrepreneurship This year’s Convening centered around the theme Transforming Youth Livelihoods: Pathways to Full Potential. GOYN’s mission is to create sustainable economic opportunities for youth and guide them on their journey toward personal success, well-being, and financial sustainability. GOYN aims to address systemic barriers like inequality and discrimination, fostering equitable outcomes for Opportunity Youth. GOYN’s Annual Convening is an important opportunity to forge stronger connections across the network, deepen learning, and showcase how GOYN is shifting mindsets, policies, and practices to build inclusive ecosystems that drive real change for young people.

Empowering the change-makers of tomorrow 🌍 Today, on International Youth Day, we celebrate the remarkable potential of young people around the world. 🌱 Youth Summit Reflections at JKUAT 🌍 On October 10th, I had the privilege of attending a transformative Youth Summit at JKUAT under the theme, Transforming Youth Systems, with the sub-theme Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health. This experience offered valuable insights into several key areas essential for youth empowerment and sustainable development. Core Takeaways: #MentalHealthSelfCare: The summit emphasized the importance of mental health and a balanced lifestyle, showing how self-care impacts both individual well-being and productivity. I gained skills in offering support and guidance to those experiencing stress and understood the power of simply being there for others. #TechnopreneurshipAgribusiness: A panel discussion underscored the need for youth engagement in precision agriculture and technopreneurship. I learned that youth involvement in policy formulation through councils can create lasting impact. Exploring agribusiness potential and leveraging technology also stood out as essential strategies for sustainable growth. #Investment-Ready Businesses: Mentorship, aligning with investor needs, embedding innovation, and ensuring environmentally-friendly practices are ways to make businesses attractive to investors. Learning from industry experts, I saw that mentorship programs and advice on business dos and don'ts can shape more resilient and appealing ventures. New Platforms & Opportunities: The summit introduced valuable platforms like #KEPSA, #KENAFF, #AjiraDigital, and #TwendeDigital, all of which support youth in technopreneurship.These resources will be instrumental as I pursue opportunities in this space. Above all, the summit inspired me to be opportunistic, innovative, and actively engaged in shaping our collective future. New Program Alert! "Women Economic Justice in the Digital Economy" (WEJDE) Program! We are delighted to announce the launch of the WEJDE program, aimed at promoting economic justice and digital inclusion for 1000 women in trade, entrepreneurship, and the informal sector. This initiative addresses the digital divide and financial inequalities that hinder women from reaching their full potential in the evolving digital economy. Through WEJDE, we will: 📊 Provide technical assistance on e-commerce and digital tools 🌐 Promote gender-inclusive technologies and digital literacy 📢 Advocate for policies supporting women’s economic justice 📈 Facilitate access to online markets and enhance supply chain management The project is implemented in partnership with @AydiaGenderTech and Youth for Tax Justice Network. WEJDE is generously funded by @UAFAfrica, whose support will enable us to create lasting economic opportunities for women entrepreneurs. Today we were in Timișoara with the team from Ascendis Association (an NGO focused on developing education in Romania) for a project that involves highschoolers and sustainability. We talked about the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, we focused on their importance and what they can already to support them. It was a subject that they usually don't spend much time thinking about and, sometimes it was tough to get the discussion going, but in the end I think we managed to pull it through and planted a seed or two that will blossom into something beautiful. #sustainability #developmentgoals #UN2030
