The app represents a creative and practical solution to strengthen the visibility and sustainability of local commerce—an essential part of our community and economy. From Adversity to Achievement: How Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe Honoree Deqa Abukar Shaped a Decade of Impact with Bling Deqa Abukar is a distinguished member of Amplify Voices, and we are immensely proud to count her among our most influential leaders. -Reflecting on your journey since receiving the Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe nomination in 2023, what are some of the key milestones or experiences that have shaped your path forward? My work with BLING began a decade ago, and the journey has been transformative. We started as two passionate individuals determined to make a positive impact on the world. Today, we are a professional organization with multiple pillars. Our entrepreneurial growth took a pivotal turn in 2018. After years of struggling to secure long-term funding and facing almost universal rejections, we found a partner in November 2018 who enabled us to accelerate to our current position. I am profoundly grateful for these unexpected encounters that led to our success. Another significant milestone that shaped my leadership was an accident in 2015. Despite having every reason to stay in bed and even having to relearn how to walk, I managed to recover and emerge stronger than ever. This experience taught me that no matter how dire the circumstances, my team and I have the resilience to overcome challenges. Our latest milestone is the launch of our venture capital fund two years ago. Despite having no prior experience, we were driven by a strong conviction that we could contribute something meaningful and had the capacity to learn. We were not afraid to fail and dared to venture into unknown territory. -How has being recognized by Forbes impacted your work and goals over the past year, and what are your ambitions for the future as you continue striving to create a better future for others? Receiving the Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe nomination in 2023 was a defining moment in my career. I view it as validation of our work in areas where we are not usually recognized. Honestly, it hasn't changed my goals or ambitions; instead, it reaffirms our efforts. The future looks promising, even though the present may seem bleak given the challenges in our country and internationally. At BLING, our goal is to continue fostering more entrepreneurs who will, in turn, contribute to a better world. Now, more than ever, we must focus on positive forces and strengthen them. For us, there is no finish line.
