🎀 Embracing the Power of Early Detection: The Mammogram Journey 🎀 Curious about mammograms? Writer Kristina Kasparian shares her insights and experiences to help ease your concerns. Mammograms are essential for detecting breast cancer early, offering more treatment options and lowering the risk of mortality. For those with a family history, like Kristina, early screenings are particularly crucial. The guidelines for mammogram screenings have recently changed, suggesting screenings every other year starting at age 40. However, individual circumstances may vary, so it's essential to discuss the best approach with your doctor. Despite potential drawbacks, such as false-positive results, the benefits of early detection often outweigh the risks. Support from friends and family can be invaluable during this process, providing encouragement and emotional support. Wondering what a mammogram feels like? It's a quick procedure, but you may experience some discomfort. Remember, communication with your technician is key to ensuring your comfort throughout the process. After the mammogram, a radiologist will analyze the results. If further tests are needed, don't panic—early detection is still our greatest ally. Feeling anxious? Kristina recommends taking someone with you, asking questions, and being gentle with yourself. Remember, prioritizing your health is always worth it in the end. 💖 #Mammogram #BreastCancerAwareness #EarlyDetection https://wb.md/3xnAVs2

Today is a significant day for women’s breast health! 🎉 Starting today, September 10, 2024, mammography facilities are required to inform patients whether their breasts are classified as "dense" or "not dense." If you receive a report indicating dense breasts, it's essential to follow up with your healthcare provider to discuss further imaging options like ultrasound or MRI. This new regulation empowers women to take control of their breast health and ensure they get the screenings they need! 💪💗 I interviewed Dr. Robin Seitzman from DenseBreast-Info.org, who explained that having dense breasts increases both the risk of developing breast cancer and the possibility of cancer being hidden on a mammogram. Take charge of your health by understanding your mammogram results and seeking additional screenings if necessary. This year, I added a Breast Oncologist to my care team. Last September, my annual mammogram produced results that caused a secondary screening, a biopsy, and a consultation with a breast oncologist whom is also a surgeon. A single papilloma has a low occurrence of turning into breast cancer without other developments coming into play, but I didn't want to take that chance so I had it removed last month. I'm here to remind you of the importance of self-care and proactive health management. Ladies and gentlemen too, while self-breast exams are crucial, they might not always detect every anomaly. Conditions like intraductal papilloma—a small, tumor in the breast ducts—may go unnoticed in a routine exam. Ladies, regular mammograms are essential. These screenings can catch what our hands might miss, offering peace of mind and early detection. Prioritize your health, schedule your annual mammogram, and encourage the women in your life to do the same. Men, if you find something in yourself or your partner, say something. Early detection saves lives! #BreastCancerAwareness #WomensHealth #MensHealth #EarlyDetection

🚨 New Study Alert 🚨 Exciting news from Kaiser Permanente! A recent study reveals that long-term ultrasound testing might not be necessary for older women with stable ovarian cysts. 🔬 Key findings: 🔹 If an ovarian mass hasn’t grown in 6 weeks, the cancer risk is less than 1%. 🔹 If it hasn’t grown in 12 months, the risk drops to less than 1 in 1000. Dr. Betty Suh-Burgmann, the lead author, emphasizes that the risk of cancer for stable masses is extremely low and decreases over time. This suggests that ongoing ultrasounds may not be needed if a cyst is stable for at least 12 months.
