Energy is a core strategic aspect of the #transatlantic relationship. I was delighted to participate in this week's U.S. Chamber of Commerce and BusinessEurope Transatlantic Business Works Summit to discuss "U.S.-EU Leadership in the Green Transition," alongside Ivana Zuzul, Pedro Azagra Blazquez (Avangrid), Roger Martella (GE Vernova), and Luiziana Ribeiro (BASF). My takeaways: ✔ Natural gas and LNG play a key role in achieving balance among energy security, affordability and sustainability. ✔ Investments in the efficiency and decarbonization of existing energy systems are vital to meeting 2030 and 2050 emission targets. ✔ The U.S. and EU have established important incentives for clean energy technology, and need to move swiftly—and together—to reform permitting frameworks and build transparent, complementary regulatory standards to unlock the potential of #hydrogen, #CCUS, #geothermal, and other #cleanpowersystems. ✔ Efforts to graft energy, climate, and industrial policies into effective, durable national and multilateral frameworks will not work without consistent and meaningful private sector engagement. From today until Sunday evening, we – EU citizens – are called to the polls to elect our representatives to the European Parliament for the 5 next years. Since 2019, #Europe has overcome numerous health, geopolitical, energy and environmental crises. The European Parliament has already adopted short, medium and long-term legislation that places energy transition and renewables at the heart of our sustainable strategy. But there is still a lot to do. From 2024 to 2029, the new Parliament will play a crucial role to reach the new target of 42.5% of renewables in our final energy consumption by 2030 and achieve our commitment to become climate neutral by 2050. The energy transition is one of the most challenging topics we will have to face collectively in the coming years, and #RenewableEnergies have a key role to play to support our transition to low carbon energy & economy. Without any further delay, we have to: 🎓 encourage training in energy transition jobs ➡️ boost our supply chains 💶 invest massively in cyber and data secure infrastructures #Wind and #Solar are local and carbon free energies. At ENGIE, we are convinced that they are a fantastic opportunity for Europe. More than ever, we need to get engaged and vote. We need to bring our friends, families and colleagues to the polls. 🤝🔌 Pact between Spain and France to boost their light and hydrogen interconnections. #Interconnections #Energy #Hydrogen. 🇪🇸🇫🇷 Spain and France have agreed to strengthen their energy ties by building new electricity connections across the Pyrenees and exploring an underwater corridor to transport green hydrogen between the two countries. 🔍 The Vice President and Minister for Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, met with French ministers to advance this fundamental agreement. I'm very excited to report the recent approval of a €2.2 billion German state aid scheme aimed at supporting the decarbonization of industrial processes. This scheme, greenlit by the European Commission, underscores a significant commitment from Germany towards fostering the transition to a net-zero economy. What's particularly noteworthy is the focus on hydrogen-related initiatives within this scheme. A considerable portion of the funding is earmarked to support investments in renewable hydrogen and hydrogen-derived fuels.
