As I work with my team to prepare a variety of rehabilitation plans and reports for Ramsar wetland sites, I'm reminded of this CSIRO Publishing resource that consolidated my learnings some 14 years ago. Understanding the wetland biota alongside the hydrological parameters is key to managing our unique Ramsar sites and this book has chapters on all of the fauna groups (as well as the vegetation communities) that rely on effective wetland functioning. As we work (and live) in a changing climate we are finding new ways, and revisiting old ways, to ensure that water for the Murray-Darling Floodplain (as well as its main channel) is a management priority - let us not forgot to support the critters that live at these sites too! #ecobooks #ramsarwetlands #adaptivemanagement

Erosion control part 2: What are some California native plants that are excellent for erosion control and for planting on hillsides? In this video, I share some trees and shrubs that work to anchor your hillside garden and serve to bring in native birds, bees and butterflies. #Californianativeplants #sustainability #erosioncontrol #droughttolerantplants #habitatrestoration #ecofriendly

Texas Native Plants 🤝 Landscape Health 🤝 Aquifer Health Mark Hamilton delves into the importance of native plants for soil health and land management. He showcases the Eastern Gammagrass next to Cibolo Creek in the riparian zone, noting its deep root system that holds soil in place during flood events. Without these healthy root systems and plant diversity, soil erosion would be inevitable. A healthy landscape not only protects the soil but also enhances water quality by reducing runoff, which ultimately protects the Edwards Aquifer. 🌱💧 Manage💧Enhance💧Protect #EdwardsAquiferAuthority #LandscapeHealth #TexasNativePlants #EdwardsAquifer #Gammagrass #CiboloCreek #RiparianZone #NativePlants #NativeGrass #PlantDiversity #HealthyLandscape #SoilHealth

Sadly summer is over! Just a quick reminder that the window for Wetland Assessments is going to start closing soon. We can often get out in most of September to complete the assessments, and sometimes into October if it’s a warm fall, but as soon as the vegetation dies we can no longer do them. So let's get your wetland assessments done before window closes for the year. Too late, too late, will be the cry, when the wetland season passes you by! #wetlands #environmentalconsulting #environmentalassessments #wetlandassessments

🌿Project Update: Upper Mary Valley Weed Vine project 🌿 This week we did a helicopter survey over parts of the Upper Mary River catchment to collect data on where Cat's claw creeper is flowering. This is one of the Weeds of National Significance that we are targeting as part of our on-going work in the Upper Mary River catchment. This work is crucial to improving the health of native vegetation in riparian areas and contributes to reducing streambank erosion, ultimately lowering sediment loads being transported to the Great Barrier Reef. The data collected in this survey will help us prioritise where we need to treat this invasive weed vine in the catchment. The data will be fed into a new strategic plan and will be used to inform an on-ground walkover of creeks in the area. The team spotted several areas of Cat's claw creeper from the air. The timing of this survey was key as we needed to be in the air when the bright yellow flowers are visible in the canopy. Thanks to Sunshine Coast Council for funding this flight and Kris Boody, Matt Bateman from Assisteco and Angus Frazer from Barung Landcare Association Inc. for assisting us with this work. #WildlifeConservation #invasiveweedmanagement #InvasiveWeeds #weedmanagement
