In a significant stride towards sustainable energy solutions, Goparity | Impact finance, the sustainable finance platform, has launched a crowdfunding #campaign with a target of €600,000, expandable to €800,000. The campaign aims to support Comunidad Solar, an innovative initiative enabling remote self-consumption of #renewableenergy. Comunidad Solar addresses the challenge faced by 65% of citizens and small to medium-sized enterprises (#SMEs) in #Spain who lack adequate space for traditional #solarpanel installations. Through remote self-consumption, participants can generate renewable energy at Comunidad Solar’s #photovoltaic parks in Fuente Álamo, Murcia, and utilize it at their own premises, unrestricted by geography. The impact of Comunidad Solar's model is substantial, with over 750 subscribers contributing to responsible production and consumption. Last summer, I joined as an early adopter and invested in Renewables.org, a crowdfunding startup that provides capital to solar developers in the Global South. Just a year later, this innovative platform has been selected as a semifinalist in the MIT Solve Challenge, an initiative that provides support to global social impact startups.   When you invest with Renewables.org, your dollars go into the Renewables Fund, which finances these crucial solar projects. As they generate and sell electricity, the revenue helps repay investors. Welcome onboard Taranis Investment! Taranis has joined Emerald’s energy fund as a limited partner. The collaboration aims to help Taranis, the investment and asset management arm of Perenco, make inroads into new technologies along the energy transition value chain as it implements its climate goals. 👍Perenco, a privately owned oil and gas company, has outlined climate targets that include a 45% reduction in scope-one greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030, compared with 2023 levels. ♻As part of this push, Taranis Investment has formed a €200 million venture capital fund, which focuses on investing in technology startups in the fields of CCUS and plastic recycling (collection, sorting as well as chemical recycling). ⚡Emerald has extensive experience sourcing deals with next-generation energy startups on behalf of its LPs. And Emerald portfolio companies include key energy players, including SpotLight Earth, which already has a partnership with Taranis. WEEKLY DEALS 1.      M&A VAALCO Energy, Inc has acquired Stockholm-based Svenska Petroleum Exploration AB for USD 66.5m, expanding its West African footprint for oil and gas exploration and production. Vaalco takes over Svenska’s 27.39% non-operator working stake (30.43% paying interest) in the CI40 license in Cote d’Ivoire. Hair Manufacturing Kenya Limited has acquired the assets of Style Industries Limit, a subsidiary of Godrej Consumer Products Limited (GCPL India) and a manufacturer and distributor of hair addition products. The transaction details were not disclosed. SAHAM Group, a leading Moroccan holding company is set to acquire a 57% stake in Société Générale Maroc (SGM) from Societe Generale (SG) banking group for a total consideration of MAD 8bn (USD 800m). 2.      Capital Raising In a funding round led by the European Investment Bank (EIB), OeEB Oesterreichische Entwicklungsbank AG - The Development Bank of Austria) and the BIO - the Belgian Investment Company for Developing Countries, TowerCo of Africa Uganda has secured USD 40m to improve its mobile network coverage in rural Uganda. To establish its private renewable electricity trading platform and connect Nigerian Breweries Plc to the grid with 100% green energy, Konexa, an energy development and investment platform has raised USD 18m from Climate Fund Managers and Climate Innovation Fund. With an investment of EUR 13.5m (USD 14.8m) provided by Knife Capital and NewSpace Capital, Simera Sense, a provider of end-to-end optical solutions for the small satellite Earth observation industry will be able to respond to the rising client demand and expand its production capacity. Planet42, a South Africa-based car subscription company, has raised ZAR 300m (USD 16m) in debt and equity funding from Standard Bank Group to repay costly euro-denominated loans. With a mix of equity and financing from Upturn, Egypt-based ad tech dKilo has secured USD 3.2m to revolutionise the out-of-home advertising landscape, introducing innovative approaches to the industry. Moroccan fintech startup Tookeez, an ecosystem for loyalty programs has raised USD 1.5m from the Azur Innovation Fund, a public-private seed capital fund. The additional funds will facilitate the company’s expansion plans and technology innovation. 3.      VC/PE Raising To double its investment and impact over the coming years, XSML Capital, a provider of growth capital to SMEs in Central and Eastern Africa has launched its fourth fund, the African Rivers Fund iv (ARF IV) with a first close of USD 98.7m. Investors in the round include FMO - Dutch entrepreneurial development bank, British International Investment, IFC - International Finance Corporation, Norfund and Swedfund International. Ring Capital, a French VC firm has announced the launch of an impact investment fund, Ring Africa, targeted at startups with strong social and environmental focus in French-speaking countries in West Africa.
