In October 2024, we conducted three workshops with students from Jurong Pioneer Junior College, giving them the chance to get hands-on while unwinding from exam stress! 🥳 Swipe to see what the students created 🤩 They got their creative juices flowing and tried their hand at making paper, avocado seed buttons, beeswax wraps, recycled plastic keychains, and their own shower steamers, showcasing the endless possibilities everyday items can offer! How to drive a circular economy for the ubiquitous PET plastic beverage bottle? ♻️ A new #MIT study finds that the national PET botle recycling rate in the US, which has remained stagnant at about 24% for a decade could jump to 82% with a nationwide bottle bill or deposit return scheme (DRS). ♻️ The MIT team evaluated PET bottle collection and recycling rates in US states as well as EU and other countries with and without bottle deposit policies, and with or without curbside recycling programs, and the inputs and outputs of various recycling companies. ♻️ The researchers estimate that with stable demand, a nationwide PET bottle recycling system could achieve 65% bottle-to-bottle circularity, at a net cost of 360 USD/tonne of PET recycled. At the same time, recycled content standards and other public policies would be needed to ensure sufficient demand for the rPET product. #PET #recycling #endplasticpollution #circulareconomy #bottletobottle

Did you know that BEWI Circular's facility in Portugal is leading the way in recycling used fish boxes? 🐠♻️ Every day, thousands of used fish boxes from supermarkets, fish markets, fish production plants, and EPS packaging from logistic centers are collected by our efficient collection system. But here's the exciting part! The collected used EPS (expanded polystyrene) material doesn't go to waste. Instead, it undergoes a remarkable transformation into high-quality rGPPS (recycled general purpose polystyrene). And that's not all! The rGPPS is then used as a raw material for EPS packaging production at BEWI Plastimar. By closing the loop and providing 100% recycled material, we are making a significant contribution to a more sustainable future. Join us in celebrating this innovative approach to recycling and sustainability! Together, we can create a world where every box has a second life. 🌎📦♻️ #bewicircular #bewiplastimar #sustainablepackaging #epspackaging #fishboxes #fishindustry #circulareconomy #epsrecycling #bettereveryday

From tulip nets to recycled Coca-Cola crates, the Dutch path to sustainable packaging The Dutch are heavily involved in farming and fishing, and as tulip nets, ropes, and other plastic materials reach the end of their life, they start a new recycling value chain. The Coca-Cola Company has seen the opportunity to partner with Maastricht-based recycler healix.eco to enhance the #sustainability performance of its #packaging glass bottle lines by using crates made with recycled materials. Healix’s plant has an annual capacity of 6,000 tons of polypropylene (PP) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE). Its branded line of recycled polymers, called Healix, includes PP pellets made from baler twine, maritime ropes, and big bags, as well as HDPE pellets from fishing nets and tulip nets. Producing crates with 97% recycled material saves an estimated 64% of CO2 emissions compared to crates made from virgin plastic, according to a cradle-to-gate LCA analysis of the project. Coca-Cola said it will replace the country’s entire fleet of crates 'step by step' with the new recycled plastic ones. #Circularity requires integrated end-to-end partnership and … human ingenuity.

It’s Global Recycling Day – a perfect date to introduce our latest video featuring our recycling partner Martogg & Company. Martogg have been manufacturing recycled plastics since 1975 and have been one of our recycling partners since January 2023. When limits on offshore exports of recycled PET came into place in 2018, Martogg seized the opportunity to invest locally and recognise the potential of Australian recycling resources. Using PET containers from Containers for Change, Martogg make high-grade purified PET flake that can be used to make food safe products such as more bottles and packaging like peanut butter jars and food trays. Watch the video to find out more about Martogg Industries' dedication to maximising recycling potential within Australia and reducing our reliance on imported recycled material or, even worse, virgin PET. We’re proud to be working with industry innovators like Martogg to help build Australia’s remanufacturing industry. This is a great example of what is happening in Container Deposit Scheme's #CDS across Australia. Making sure containers displaying the 10 cent refund mark enter these Scheme's gives every Australian an EASY way to make a POSITIVE IMPACT against #climatechange and protecting our oceans. #sustainability #betterfuture #forourplanet #rightmove #circulareconomy #circularity #recycling

With the new Kerbside standardisation collection now if effect, only those plastic packaging items marked #1, #2 & #5 can go in your recycling bins. Lids off and make sure items are rinsed and clean! No film (Soft Plastics) items. Contamination is one of the biggest items that prevents these valuable materials from being recycled and remaining in the circular economy for reuse. #Plastic #kerbsiderecycling #reduce #reuse #recycle
Three months ago, kerbside recycling collections were standardised across Aotearoa New Zealand. This means councils across the country now collect the same items: ▫️ Plastics numbered 1️⃣, 2️⃣ or 5️⃣ ▫️ Glass bottles and jars ▫️ Tins and cans ▫️ Paper and cardboard, including pizza boxes 🍕 Please keep all lids out of your recycling, except tin lids if they’re still attached. Households have had a few kerbside collections now to get used to the changes. Is there anything you’re still unsure about? Leave your recycling questions for us in the comments below ⬇ For a refresher on how to #RecycleRight, visit: https://lnkd.in/g3ivndcp

Australia can turn waste into road strength! This video explores using recycled plastics in road construction. The project by WARRIP and NACOE investigated using recycled plastics in asphalt, geosynthetics, and even traffic cones. Recycled plastics in asphalt show promise for some applications, in place of conventional materials. Initial environmental, health and safety studies appear promising, and the research indicates a potential solution for plastic waste in road infrastructure. Watch the full video here and visit the WARRIP website to stay tuned for further research www.warrip.com.au
