【International Day for Biological Diversity】Biodiversity is not only a wonder of nature, but an important way life on Earth sustains. At Towngas Smart Energy, we take concrete steps to protect #biodiversity and make every possible effort to harmoniously coexist with wildlife, as it is a vital part of this planet’s sustainable future. The Environmental Policy jointly upheld by us and our parent company, The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas), has been enhanced to include our new commitment of working towards no net biodiversity loss and striving to net positive impact. To fulfil our latest commitments to nature and biodiversity, we have adopted the “Mitigation Hierarchy” model, which focuses on reducing, restoring and offsetting interference and impact on biodiversity. In the planning phase, we actively avoid operating in areas rich in biodiversity. We conduct biodiversity impact assessments for projects in ecologically significant sites; and commit to not cutting down trees and respecting the rights of indigenous communities within our operational boundaries. Solar and wind power projects are key to a sustainable future, but they must be developed responsibly. Environmental impact assessments (EIAs) ensure these projects protect habitats, communities, and biodiversity. This week's listing includes projects seeking registration and/or verification in the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program as well as the Climate, Community & Biodiversity Standards (CCBS) Program that are located in India, the United States, China, South Africa, and Argentina. These projects are implementing a broad range of activities, including related to energy efficiency reducing food loss and waste, and sustainable grassland management. Collectively, the projects seeking registration in the VCS and CCBS Programs could reduce and/or remove 961,935 tCO2e from the atmosphere. This week's listing includes projects seeking registration and/or verification in the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and the Climate, Community & Biodiversity Standards (CCBS) Programs. The projects are located in various geographic regions, including France, China, India, Poland, and more. [Over 5,000 attend Towngas’ Biodiversity and New Energies Symposium] Today, on National Ecology Day, Towngas and Towngas Smart Energy Company Limited, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Management Association, held the Biodiversity and New Energies Symposium. More than 20 representatives from the business sector, public utilities, conservation organisations, and academia participated in discussions on crucial topics such as:   - Hydrogen industry research, application and development - New energies transitioning for aviation and sea, i.e. sustainable aviation fuel and green methanol - Enhanced corporate disclosure of nature-related financial information - Balancing development with ecological conservation   Over 5,000 people attended the full-day Symposium in person or via live streaming, reflecting a global focus on new energy and biodiversity.    At the event, Towngas announced the release of a biodiversity commemorative stamp pack featuring unique ecological environments across Greater China, aiming to raise public awareness of the importance of conservation.   This event showcases our commitment to environmental protection and biodiversity conservation, as we continue to transform from a traditional utility to an integrated clean energy supplier. 🌱 The adoption of biodiversity conservation criteria by ecolabels and certification schemes This specific good practice explores the benefits of incorporating biodiversity-focused criteria in #ecolabels and certifications and explicitly communicating #biodiversity aspects.
