Impaired somatosensory habituation in older adults with chronic pain during an affective oddball task Energy and attention are limited resources, and as we age, the compounding effects of adverse health events and conditions reduce the buffer we have to tackle even simple tasks. This study supports the resource shortage hypothesis, particularly when pain is present in the senior population. Active and effective clinical care, especially pain management, is not just about comfort—it has a real and significant impact on survival in aging. Accessible and functional clinical care should address not only the diagnosis but also the broader externalities, such as the impact of pain on daily living and overall well-being in older adults. #painmanagment #paincontrol #rehab #MSK #PTfirst #AgingWell #PainManagement #SeniorCare #Healthcare

Falls can be detrimental for us 🙆🏽♀️ While falls are common, they can cause serious harm and sometimes even death, especially in people 65 and over. In Canada in 2019, almost two-thirds of fall-related deaths among older adults occurred at age 85 and older. Even when falls don’t cause serious physical injury, they often mark the start of a downward spiral that can quickly be exacerbated by lack of confidence and fear, and can negatively affect physical and mental well-being. Check out this inter-professional rehabilitation program designed to help and support people at risk before something more serious happens! By focusing on exercises that build strength and confidence in patients, and making them more mobile; the program also takes aim at the ripple effects of losing that confidence, such as decreased activity in the community and mood, which can lead to social isolation. This is currently being offered at Bruyère Geriatric Day Hospital in Ottawa to their elderly patients. #PublicHealth #SeniorHealth
