Middlesbrough Gresham Redevelopment has announced Wates Group as their construction contractor for Gresham. “We’re thrilled to announce a key milestone in our Gresham Regeneration Project with the appointment of Wates, a leading national contractor, to help bring our vision for #Middlesbrough to life. This transformative first phase includes a 200-bedroom Fairfield by Marriott hotel, over 230 build-to-rent homes, and student accommodation for more than 450 residents, all designed to revitalise the town centre and create a vibrant community. But this is about more than buildings. Our project will deliver £50 million in social value, support the local supply chain, and provide high-quality living spaces to attract and retain top talent, driving growth in sectors like digital tech and advanced manufacturing.”

The City of Brownwood is taking a significant step towards further revitalizing its downtown area with the selection of Freese and Nichols (FNI) to lead the design phase of key projects. FNI, responsible for the 2003 and 2024 Downtown Master Plans, will now translate the vision outlined in the latter into actionable plans for construction.

City of London Corporation approves rival to the Shard. The City of London Corporation’s planning applications sub-committee has approved proposals for what will become the tallest tower in the Square Mile. Latest plans for the redevelopment of the 1 Undershaft site are for a 74-storey office tower that, at 309.6-metres high, would equal the Shard as the UK’s tallest building... Centennial fast-tracks construction on Geebung Industrial Park as two new tenants secured by JLL and Cushman & Wakefield Centennial accelerated the start of construction on the final stage of Geebung Industrial Park in Brisbane's inner north, and securing two new tenants with assistance of agents Morgan Ruig of Cushman Wakefield and Gibson Leembruggen of JLL. According to Centennial's Head of Institutional Funds, Alex Edwards the company was delighted with the rapid progress of the Geebung estate's transformation from an under rented B-grade facility into an institutional grade industrial asset, being built by leading Queensland company, McNab Constructions. "We're also very pleased to welcome one of Queensland’s oldest established building and supplies groups, Bretts Trade Timber and Hardware expected to move into two refurbished warehouses, on the eastern perimeter of stage two in February 2025, together with Rohde & Schwarz which operates in around 70 countries. Agents responsible for negotiating the new tenancy deals, Morgan Ruig of Cushman Wakefield and Gibson Leembruggen of JLL, said both parties were drawn to Geebung Industrial Park based on its ease of access and connectivity to the major arterial routes including the Gateway Motorway and connections to the port, airport and CBD - all crucial to both businesses' operations. Pleased to see progress on Nottingham's Broad Marsh area. Back in September 2020 Green Hustle's first festival, all online in the pandemic, hosted (alongside friends at Nottingham Climate Assembly) the first public meeting on re-imagining this opportune former shopping centre site... In an assembly format, we listened to over 60 attendees' hopes and dreams for our city's future. You can watch the whole thing back here: https://lnkd.in/di64e2br Background info was provided by Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust CEO Paul Wilkinson as well as two of our most pioneering and community-minded politicians, then-Deputy Leader and Carbon Neutral Nottingham 2028 champion Sally Longford and the ever-excellent Nadia Whittome MP. Ok it wasn't a terribly balanced panel, but was at a green-themed festival and 10,000 people had at that point already signed a petition calling for it to be made a green space. Early days for me, my very first experience co-designing and facilitating anything like an assembly. We also heard from a seven year old, and the brilliant Lucelia Rodrigues reflecting on what our youngest citizens wanted to see from the space from school engagement. But it was what came from our participants that was the magic, and it helped stimulate the official Big Conversation, playing a part in informing these plans. Jury is out on whether they deliver... Glad to see so many green roofs, more room given over to people and nature, even an actual marsh! And space for celebrating our heritage, which is what Nottingham people called for. (I just hope the Green Heart park doesn't get any smaller) The new NHS diagnostic centre and re-use of the broadly unloved old Broadmarsh centre's rather brutal frame is also, I think, fantastic. People power! 🏹 💚 EDITS - some good people have contradicted my initially rosey assessment, and I admit it isn't perfect. I have rebalanced a bit. I don't think we're ever all going to be totally happy AND it be viable for developers. Maybe a medium is being found here. I hope it is at least as green as the picture paints... Let's remember many people also find the idea of it being a big green space ridiculous and impractical, though I would love that too! I am proud of what we did in growing the conversation and demanding real engagement.
