As we reflect on the past year, we're reminded of the ambitious plans for Flag Lane Baths – a Grade 2 Listed art-deco gem which was set to be transformed into a vibrant community hub in Crewe. The project aimed to breathe new life into the historic building with a gallery, performance space, café, children’s centre, flexible workspaces, and more, all while preserving its unique character. Despite the challenges of funding, heritage preservation, and complex restoration, we remain hopeful that this iconic space will one day be repurposed to serve the community’s needs, promoting arts, culture and inclusion. https://lnkd.in/eXpzt3yk Fab images by Katherine Dauncey 👍

Work to completely revamp the Heywood Civic Centre is now under way, following the appointment of Lancashire based Conlon Construction. We took a little tour to give you a sense of how we will be transforming this space and creating something truly fantastic in the heart of Heywood. This fabulous project is supported by Arts Council England and Your Trust Rochdale and is being delivered on our behalf by Rochdale Development Agency. The architects are K2 Architects.

Work to start at £5.5m Heywood Civic Centre revamp - with completion expected by autumn 2025. The building will see a café and bar installed at its front, an expansion of its foyer, and upgrades to the performance space to improve lighting and sound. Retractable seating is to be installed in the centre’s auditorium, allowing for a flexible use of space. Last week I had the pleasure of speaking to young people about all things Architecture and the Built Environment at PLACED Academy's Careers Night. It's great to speak to young people who are passionate about their future and want to get into the profession.
