TransportTech Swvl is one of the rare rays of light in an otherwise gloomy landscape. They went public in 2022 via a SPAC with a valuation of 1.5 billion dollars.  Then they lost money, lost money, and lost money.  In late 2023, their valuation was down to 5 million dollars, and they were in danger of delisting. Then they apparently forgot how to run a startup, because for the second half of 2023, they turned a profit. They are making most of their money by selling software and SaaS systems that companies use in order to manage transport systems. The stock is up about twenty times now from the low, and if you invested at the bottom you got venture capital returns, 20X, in four or five months. Not bad. MapMyIndia - Successful Deep-Tech IPOs/Business from India I was looking for tech businesses/success stories using API monetization models for API gateways. That's where I learnt about this inspiring story. Though I had briefly heard about this company then and there, I didn't imagine its magnitude and scale of operations. Their business success/results post-IPO (screenshot attached) are as extraordinary and consistent as their product and technology leadership. In my experience, many successful, profitable, bootstrapped businesses are low-key, with solid foundations on value creation, profits, and growth. Mapmyindia is one such company. MapMyIndia, a 30-year-old successful deep-tech IPO, is the first of its kind, backed by Qualcomm Ventures, and boasts an impressive clientele and a global footprint. Also, this involves a humongous effort to capture and digitize the streets of India. My guess is that their IPO success and billion-dollar valuation inspired Ola to replicate another IPO success by introducing old maps based on OpenStreetMaps + in-house enhancements.
