Please listen to this podcast on physician leadership in healthcare
We're bringing you into the 'room where it happens,' so to speak, and broadcasting a panel discussion that we recorded live at the Physician-Led Healthcare for America (PHA) leadership conference in Naples, Florida last month. Moderated by Dutch Rojas, speakers Mike Lipomi and our own Wendy Dean, MD led a rousing conversation on what physician-led healthcare means, and what doctors and patients lose when we don't have control over care. Matthew Ramsey offers some thoughts about the discussion from a birds eye view, later.

It is nice to be able to say "value" but it is far more difficult to define it and collect the data. For instance, what is a good diet? What is adequate exercise? These are far more impactful to the long-term health of a patient with coronary disease than having a statin or platelet inhibitor prescribed for the patient. But the latter are easier to measure. For that matter, how do we know if the patient is even taking the medication? It is far easier to check off items in a note: how many systems did you review; did you document a differential diagnosis; did you document the complexity of a procedure? Until we solve the data collection problem, we will not have truly effective value-based care at scale. #valuebasedcare #populationhealth #datagovernance
Why is it taking so long for health systems to shift from fee-for-service to value-based care? Kaiser Permanente has been providing health-focused care for nearly 80 years. Every day we see the benefits of a model that prioritizes coordination, prevention, and delivery of evidence-based care at the right time and the right place. At Modern Healthcare ’s Leadership Symposium last week, I shared some of those benefits, including the value derived for our clinicians (the ability to focus on what they do best – treating patients), our patients (better health outcomes and a more seamless experience), and the system overall (reduced costs and a shared commitment to keep people healthy). It was a stimulating conversation that included aligned perspectives from other health care leaders, including Farzad Mostashari of Aledade, and Dr. Mohamed Diab, MBA, of CVS, guided by our moderator Michelle M. Stein of Modern Healthcare. I hope attendees left feeling as convinced as I am that now is the time for all health care providers to make meaningful progress on the journey to value-based care so that our health care system, our patients and our communities can fully realize the benefits of this approach. #ValueBasedCare #prevention #evidencebasedcare

Building a High-Value Culture: A Key Strategy of Successful ACOs For over a decade, ACOs have made great strides in fulfilling the promise of value-based care: a health care system that is less complex, more supportive, and focused on keeping patients healthy and delivering positive outcomes. How are successful ACOs achieving these goals? NAACOS conducted a series of interviews with leadership of high-performing ACOs and reviewed literature on ACO strategies to understand what goes into the “secret sauce” of ACO success, which uncovered five key “ingredients.” One of those ingredients is a high-value culture, driven by strong visionary leadership and a commitment to accountable care. Trust in leadership and a culture of continuous learning are vital to shift the organizational mindset to proactive, population health care. How is your organization working to create a culture of value? Learn more in the full ACO Drivers for Success resource: https://lnkd.in/eQyQSvp5 You can also hear directly from successful ACOs on their strategies at the NAACOS fall conference on October 16-18 in Washington, DC, don’t miss out! Both in-person and virtual attendance options are available, secure your registration today: https://lnkd.in/e-sq6T2j #valuebasedcare #healthcareleadership #organizationalculture #transformationalleadership
