Being the first CCS Project out the gate in the cement industry comes with its challenges. But oh, how satisfying it is to be nearing completion at Brevik CCS! Yesterday we had the pleasure of hosting a delegation visit from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), and we had a lot to discuss: 👉 How does the US Inflation Reduction Act compare to the EU Emissions Trading System and the Innovation Fund? 👉 How do we share the technical and regulatory learnings we’ve drawn thus far to facilitate the next projects? One main criteria of success in the Longship Project, is that Brevik CCS shall be the first of many in our industry and beyond. The amount of visits and attention we receive gives solid ground for optimism in this regard. 🌟 Exciting start to #EnergyWeek2024! Yesterday, we were thrilled to host the Koppö Energia – Westenergy get-together evening. Together with CPC Germania GmbH & Co. KG and Prime Capital AG we presented the Power-to-X project in Kristinestad – Kristiinankaupunki – City of Kristinestad and our joint ECCU project to key stakeholders in the region. Westenergy is proud to be the pioneer of carbon capture in Finland in the waste-to-energy sector, which will allow us by the end of 2026 to: 🔹  Commission the largest carbon capture plant in Finland 🔹 Contribute to one of the most significant European power-to-gas projects 🔹 Provide clean energy and achieve high material efficiency through carbon recycling “This state-of-the-art carbon capture unit will make our waste-to-energy plant the most modern plant of this type in the world. Carbon Circle AS and Ocean GeoLoop AS signed a contract for groundbreaking carbon capture project in Norway. Two companies will perform a study for CO2 capture and liquefaction from NorFraKalk AS's lime kiln in Verdal Industrial Park, Norway.   The plant currently emits around 200,000 tons of CO2 per year. The demonstration project, which will now be assessed, will capture and liquefy 10,000 tons of CO2 per year. This week, the Circular Road Infrastructure Project had a fantastic kickoff, kindly hosted by PEAB—thank you for the warm welcome and excellent hospitality! Our mission with this project is clear: to replace fossil carbon in road construction with green alternatives, focusing on lignin and pyrolysis oil from Swedish biomass as key innovations. The highlight? Witnessing the impressive results of blending pyrolysis oil, produced by Envigas, into asphalt samples—a great example of the potential for greener and more sustainable roads. The Circular Road Infrastructure Project is led by RISE and Viveca Wallqvist, with strong collaboration from other partners, including Trafikverket, Svensk Däckåtervinning, Lixea, and Renfuel. Horisont Energi has agreed with a leading global technology company to cooperate on the development of carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects in Europe. The collaboration includes joint development of end-to-end CCS projects where Horisont Energi is intended to take the role as carbon storage project developer and operator. “We are now seeing the effect of the significant competence, know-how and organisational capabilities Horisont Energi has built within CCS over the last five years. Our collaboration with a company with trusted experience, innovative technologies, and execution capabilities will facilitate new market entries, strengthen and complement our capabilities, and contribute to the development of new pioneering projects in Europe, » say Horisont Energi’s Co-CEOs Bjørgulf Haukelidsæter Eidesen and Leiv Olav Kallestad. Big news for the future of carbon capture and storage! Congratulation to all! 🌍 Yesterday's FID on both the Northern Endurance Project AND the Greensand project are wonderful news for all working with CCS, as these projects are game-changers for carbon capture in the UK and Denmark, and Europe as such! The large Northern Endurance project has been on the table for a long time, with the initial storage licence awarded in 2012. With NEP partners (bp, Equinor, TotalEnergies) now taking FID, commercial injection is expected in 2028. NEP is set to become the backbone for carbon transport and storage in the UK, helping industries across Teesside and Humber decarbonize. 👇 https://lnkd.in/dauJkcP At the same time, the Greensand project (INEOS, Harbour Energy, Nordsøfonden) is mode modest in terms of capacities, but a big step forward for CO2 storage in Denmark, and quite impressive given that Denmark's CCS strategy was set only in 2019! How cobalt in fuelling the EU’s net-zero transition, transport and electric vehicles in focus [Advocacy Lab Content]: Cobalt demand is expected to more than double by 2030, of which more than 50% will be for electric vehicles, according to the International Energy Agency. The cobalt sector's growth will also bring a boost for Europe's Net-Zero objectives.
