This week, the Circular Road Infrastructure Project had a fantastic kickoff, kindly hosted by PEAB—thank you for the warm welcome and excellent hospitality! Our mission with this project is clear: to replace fossil carbon in road construction with green alternatives, focusing on lignin and pyrolysis oil from Swedish biomass as key innovations. The highlight? Witnessing the impressive results of blending pyrolysis oil, produced by Envigas, into asphalt samples—a great example of the potential for greener and more sustainable roads. The Circular Road Infrastructure Project is led by RISE and Viveca Wallqvist, with strong collaboration from other partners, including Trafikverket, Svensk Däckåtervinning, Lixea, and Renfuel. 👉 EU Commissioner for Energy and Norwegian Minister of Climate and Environment at CCS-visit Today we were honored to host EU Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, and Minister of Climate and Environment, Andreas Bjelland Eriksen, at the Brevik cement plant in Norway. During their visit we engaged in productive discussions about the future of industrial-scale #CCS projects and the necessary steps to make them a reality. We presented enablers that can accelerate progress in this area, including: ▶ Leveraging #BECCS to unlock investments in CCS. ▶ Streamlining grid development to expedite project implementation. ▶ Scaling up public funding through strategic private investments. ▶ Promoting sustainable construction practices via public procurement. The conversations highlighted the importance of #collaboration and #innovation in achieving our shared climate goals - and what it means for the construction industry that we start to deliver our net-zero product range #evoZero from Brevik in 2025. We are excited to continue working towards these goals together, and look forward to further developments in the field of carbon capture and storage.

The transition of heavy-duty transport requires more green solutions! In a recent op-ed for Altinget Energi og Forsyning, STRING’s Managing Director, Thomas Becker, highlights the critical need for a balanced approach to green fuels to drive a sustainable shift in heavy-duty road transport. While electrification holds potential, we need other alternatives. Hydrogen trucks offer an ideal solution for long-haul journeys but infrastructure to support them is still lacking. Political priorities that encourage both hydrogen and electric options are essential to shift effectively away from diesel. With countries around the world making significant green investments, Denmark has a chance to match this momentum and strengthen its leadership. The upcoming revision of the Danish Climate Act offers a timely opportunity to reinforce support for green fuels. These points align perfectly with our objectives at GREATER4H, as we work to support the development of hydrogen infrastructure for a sustainable and resilient heavy-duty transport sector across Northern Europe. In our first blog post, Luke O'Connell, Engineer and ShipFuel-IE Project Manager, delves into the history of shipping fuel, its transition towards sustainability and the opportunities and challenges faced by the industry. ShipFuel-IE is led by MaREI, the Science Foundation Ireland Research Centre for Energy, Climate and Marine at University College Cork in collaboration with renewable energy consultants Gavin & Doherty Geosolutions (GDG), a Venterra Group company. If you want something to move, it helps to give it a little nudge. But when it is the aviation sector’s green transition that you want to get rolling, a little more than that is needed 🛫 What exactly? One of Scandinavia's largest factories that produces synthetic and sustainable aviation fuel using power from wind turbines and solar panels. Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) is behind the project, which is called Fjord PtX, because of its location close to the Limfjord in Northern Jutland, Denmark. Here, the PtX plant will utilize renewable energy and CO₂ from a nearby waste incineration to produce green aviation fuel. We are responsible for planning the project and handling all regulatory processes, including the implementation of environmental and nature surveys and the application for the necessary permits. It is expected that all permits are in place, and construction can begin in 2026. Annually, the future plant is expected to be able to produce up to 110 million litres of aviation fuel, which will be more than enough to cover the annual domestic flights in Denmark, which currently consume 30 million litres of fuel. But the plant will not only deliver the first drops of green aviation fuel to Danish aviation. The factory will also produce a range of sustainable by-products for other sectors.
