📣 Exciting read! 🌍 Dive into this report series highlighting the need for food and agriculture companies to rapidly adapt to changing sustainability regulation and exploring the costs and benefits of mitigating the largest portion of food sector emissions. 

As an Ambassador of the Food and Land Use Coalition (FOLU), I am happy to share their newest report on #FutureFit of Food & Agriculture. For less than 2% of the #food sector’s projected annual revenues between 2025 and 2030, companies can mitigate 90% of #agricultural and #landuse change emissions in their #valuechains, and unlock a variety of #economic co-benefits, including: 📈 New #market access 🌾 Higher #yields 💵 On-farm #savings 🖇️ Increased supply chain #resilience However, although these costs for #mitigation solutions are manageable for the food sector as a whole, the responsibility for implementing them lands most heavily on #farmers 👩🌾 - who are often the least able to pay. Farmers are central to the delivery of #NetZero and #nature restoration targets, but they can't carry the costs and risks alone. To navigate these challenges, the Food and Land Use Coalition (FOLU), WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development and We Mean Business Coalition recommend that companies: 🌾 Work with farmers to ensure a more equitable distribution of costs 🤝 Partner with actors across value chains 📣 Unify policy asks to governments to incentivize action Read the reports to find out more 👇 https://lnkd.in/da8saWGA

🌱 The Unsung Heroes of Sustainability: Smallholder Farmers 🌾 In the global push for sustainable development, smallholder farmers play a crucial yet often overlooked role. Representing nearly 500 million farms worldwide, these farmers produce a significant portion of the world's food, particularly in regions where agriculture remains the backbone of the economy. But their impact goes beyond just food production. Smallholder farmers are at the heart of sustainable value chains, helping to - among other things: 🔄 Promote biodiversity: By cultivating diverse crops and traditional varieties, they maintain ecosystems that are vital for soil health and pest control. 🌍 Mitigate climate change: Sustainable farming practices—such as agroforestry, crop rotation, and organic farming—can help sequester carbon and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. 💪 Empower local economies: Investing in smallholder farmers means supporting local communities, creating jobs, and fostering economic resilience. 🤝 Build ethical supply chains: When we prioritize smallholder farmers, we encourage fair trade practices, ensuring that the people who feed the world can also sustain their own families. To truly build a sustainable future, we need to invest in training, infrastructure, and fair market access for smallholder farmers. By doing so, we can empower them to thrive, while also ensuring the food security of future generations. Have you ever heard of regenerative agriculture? It's the cultivation model that combines food production and, at the same time, provides a recovery possibility for the land, reducing the impacts that the food, agribusiness and beverage (FAB) industry has on climate change. The food demand is expected to continue growing over the next 25 years, at least, due to the estimated population increase. Therefore, producers must think of sustainable ways to balance production to meet growing demand with less impact on nature.
