Really looking forward to this event! For those who don't know, Scott Pirrello and his team at the San Diego County District Attorney's Office run the Elder Justice Task Force (EJTF) dedicated to identifying, investigating, and disrupting scam networks that target older adults locally in San Diego. Senior Tech Connect. This work is extremely important, especially given the influx of new tactics and cyber scams - so much so that we stream the '60 Minutes' episode featuring the EJTF San Diego whenever we present on Top Senior Scams. Senior Tech Connect is looking forward to collaborating with Scott's team to provide #Cybersecurity workshops and other resources to help older adults (especially those vulnerable to cyber crime) throughout #SanDiego County over the next few months. Come out to this event! In the meantime, please educate your loved ones with these three simple tips: 1️⃣ If you don't recognize a phone number, don't pick up the phone. 2️⃣ If you receive notification of some payment due, call the organization directly to confirm (not through the link). 3️⃣ Treat all texts, calls, emails with caution. From the IRS: "We typically contact you the first time through regular U.S. mail delivered by the U.S. Postal Service. To verify the IRS sent the letter or notice, you can search for it on IRS.gov." That includes: 💵 $5M contributed to the GDP 💰 $1.5M collected in tax revenue 🤝 98 jobs supported Ask not what you can do for trails, but what trails can do for you. but while you're asking, you can DOUBLE your donation this month thanks to the EZBO foundation's gracious matching campaign. Men’s mental health matters—and it always has. Now that Movember has wrapped up, it’s important to remember that the conversation about men’s mental health doesn’t stop with November. For too long, men have been pressured to “man up,” stay silent, and carry their struggles alone. But silence doesn’t heal—it isolates. My dad’s story is a powerful reminder of this. His mental health struggles, left unsupported, drove him to the bottle as a way to cope. He worked incredibly hard as the CTO at AXA (I had no idea what that actually meant growing up!), but like so many men, he was fighting invisible battles beneath the surface. He doesn’t mind me sharing this—he’s retired now, with no career pressures (or fear of shaming!), and has always believed in using his story to help others. He’s taught me and my sisters to own our stories and show up as our authentic selves. I couldn’t be prouder of him for owning his (Mates in Mind). If initiatives like Movember had existed in the 90s, maybe things would’ve been different. Maybe the stigma around men seeking help wouldn’t have been so strong. Maybe he would’ve had access to the support he needed. This is why Movember is so important—not for the moustaches, but for the conversations they spark. Kudos to Josh Carhart👇, whose ginger genetics made his Movember attempt a bit… underwhelming 😂. But it’s not about the facial hair—it’s about shining a light to break the stigma, support men, and remind them that it’s okay to talk, to ask for help, and to admit they’re struggling. If you’re reading this and struggling, know this: reaching out for help isn’t weakness—it’s strength.
The Movember results are in for 2024! 🥸 As a firm this year, our movers and growers have successfully raised £2201. After a very close vote, Vikesh Parekh took home the title of best moustache and Monika O. took home the Oaklin Move-ember title, moving over 200km throughout November. Thank you to all of our brilliant colleagues for participating and the support and generosity of everyone who has donated! You can still donate here: https://lnkd.in/ew7n_xb5 We look forward to trying to beat this total next year in support of Movember and all the wonderful projects they contribute to! #movember #menshealth #CSR #charity #fundraising

Giving a child a book they can own can be a powerful investment in their future and their wellbeing. That’s why we’ve been working with the Children's Book Project to do just that. Using our business to do better, as a B Corp. So we put out the call to our shoppers to leave out any children’s books they’d like to donate and we’ve had a great response. On top of making our weekly deliveries, our incredible drivers have been collecting these donations, ready to bring back for our charity partner to sort and re-gift. We’ve estimated around 8,000 books have been donated and we can’t thank people enough for the kindness that this shows. From our generous shoppers and hard-working drivers to all the team at The Children’s Book Project. “Once again, the families that shop with Abel & Cole have amazed us by donating thousands of preloved children’s books to The Children’s Book Project. They are now on their way to new adventures with children, many of whom own few if any books of their own. Families can continue to donate books all year round at drop points or with free doorstep collections, by visiting https://lnkd.in/eCVDCxqv. Thank you for your support" Kristin Knell, Children’s Book Project. #Charity #Community #BCorp #Donation
