Today, 29th September, marks the International Day of Awareness on #FoodLoss and #Waste, a critical reminder of the global challenge we face in creating a more sustainable food system. At #FLEXIZYME, we're dedicated to playing our part in reducing waste through #innovative biotechnological solutions. 🍃 How FLEXIZYME Contributes to Reducing Food Loss and Waste 🍃 FLEXIZYME transform by-products from the food industry, such as fat and protein-rich residues, into valuable #rawmaterials for fatty amine production. This sustainable approach promotes a #circulareconomy by minimizing waste, reusing resources efficiently, and reducing the environmental impact throughout the production chain. 🌱 Why This Matters 🌱 Reducing food loss and waste is essential for building a more #sustainable future. By leveraging innovative technologies, FLEXIZYME is committed to making a difference, helping to conserve resources, reduce emissions, and create value from what would otherwise be discarded. Let’s work together to raise awareness and take action against food loss and waste! Open innovation is one of the keys to overcoming technological and scientific challenges, and sparking breakthrough innovations. For a year now, Lesaffre has been working with SoScience to explore new technologies for carbon capture and utilization in food industry. Together, we're setting in motion a revolution in the world of industry and research, by looking at the impact of innovation in terms of energy costs, water use, resource implications and other issues that could have an impact on our environment and society. In this way, Lesaffre brings all its expertise in the fields of #fermentation and #microorganisms to #CCU players to explore new uses in the food industry, but it also enables non-food players to think about similar explorations. Let's work together to find solutions that turn carbon dioxide from a waste product into a resource!

Microorganisms have a huge metabolic potential to convert simple molecules into complex ones such as food products & ingredients. CCU technologies provide direct access to CO2 as a carbon source. Let's combine the two to find a new way to produce food and more in a sustainable way, starting from CO2.

🌱 Promoting biocontrol innovation: Addressing Europe’s regulatory challenges🌱 ▶ The recent publication of the European Council’s Strategic Agenda highlights critical objectives for the next five years, including enhancing Europe’s competitiveness and ensuring high-quality goods and services. However, one significant barrier remains: the outdated regulatory framework stifling biocontrol innovation in agriculture. Europe boasts extensive biocontrol expertise, yet our farmers face a regulatory landscape that lags behind global competitors like Brazil and the USA. The time-to-market for new biocontrol innovations here is unnecessarily prolonged, up to 8-10 years compared to 2-3 years elsewhere. This disparity not only undermines our agricultural sector’s efficiency but also forces EU-funded innovations to thrive abroad rather than at home. The solution is clear: we urgently need a Single Market for biocontrol products in Europe. Consolidating the regulatory process under a single European authority would streamline approvals, reduce bureaucratic strain, and ensure equal access to innovations for all EU farmers. Such harmonization is not just about competitiveness; it’s about sustainability and resilience in agriculture, aligning with the Council’s commitment to a robust, innovation-friendly environment. Moreover, simplifying regulations isn’t just a boon for biocontrol start-ups; it’s a catalyst for economic growth and job creation across Europe. By supporting a dedicated regulatory framework, we can unleash the potential of SMEs and foster a vibrant ecosystem where innovation thrives. ▶ Join us in advocating for a modern, unified approach to biocontrol regulation in Europe. Let’s make our agriculture more competitive, sustainable, and resilient while securing Europe’s position as a leader in biocontrol innovation. 💡 Read more: https://lnkd.in/eKNG5Hfb ✒ Join the Biocontrol Coalition: https://lnkd.in/eP8Eajyg #Biocontrol #AgriculturalInnovation #EURegulation #Sustainability #EuropeanUnion

⚪️ Excited to present the EPACAT – the European Protein Advancement Center of Catalonia project, in partnership with Hub de la Bioeconomia de Catalunya [BioHubCat] at Alimentaria Barcelona. This innovative facility is poised to meet the growing demands for scaling alternative protein solutions and to transform the bioeconomy sector, aligning with Catalonia's 2030 Bioeconomy Strategy. During Alimentaria, we engaged with numerous local and international stakeholders, building pivotal collaborations for EPACAT's journey. Discussions around the plant's PPP (Public-Private Partnership) model with several private investment funds were particularly fruitful, underscoring the strong interest in supporting the project. ◻️ This initiative highlights the power of a well-connected ecosystem to drive forward the food industry. ➖ #Alimentaria2024 #AlimentariaHostelco2024 #AgrifoodEcosystem

🌿 A New Horizon for Biotech & Biomanufacturing in Europe 🌿 Yesterday, the European Commission unveiled its much-anticipated “Communication on Biotech and Biomanufacturing,” setting a course for the future of the Bioeconomy in the EU. We at Bon Vivant are thrilled to see such a visionary approach, especially the recognition of biotech's pivotal role in transforming the agri-food sector towards sustainability and resilience. Europe’s history of leadership on fermentation makes us proud, and must be continued. The Commission's statement resonates deeply with our mission: "Biotechnology can help reduce the EU’s external dependencies making [agri-food systems] more resilient and supportive to reach the EU’s climate neutrality goal" This aligns perfectly with our efforts in precision fermentation, aiming to create sustainable and healthier food options. Yet, the journey from vision to reality requires swift and decisive action. As EuropaBio - the European Association for Bioindustries aptly notes, we must transition "from rhetoric into policy and legislation action" to truly empower innovators and secure long-term investment in Europe's biotech infrastructure and talent. 🔍 We believe we need to: Simplify the regulatory journey for Novel Foods, upholding European Food Safety Authority (EFSA)'s high safety standards Accelerate market access and scale-up fermentation infrastructure Enhance access to growth-stage funding, recognizing its critical role in nurturing a dynamic biotech ecosystem As proud members of EuropaBio - the European Association for Bioindustries, Food Fermentation Europe, and France Deeptech, we're committed to collaborating with French and European stakeholders, including the European Biosolutions Coalition. Together, we'll advocate for the rapid enactment of this visionary communication into tangible laws and regulations, such as a potential EU Biotech Act. The future is bright, and together, we can make it sustainable. 💡🌍 #Biotech #Sustainability #FutureOfFood
