🌿 Celebrating our environmental Milestones in 2024! 🌿 As we approach the end of 2024, I am incredibly proud to reflect on the significant work my little team has done in our environment portfolio. This year has had a focus on sustainability, biodiversity, and climate resilience. 🌱 Last week we launched the 2024 Nature in the City Grants, funding innovative projects that cool urban areas and enhance green spaces. These initiatives are crucial in our fight against urban heat and a changing climate. 🦘 Our approach to wildlife management, including the 2024 kangaroo cull, has been essential in maintaining the health of our local ecosystems. While this has been a challenging decision, it underscores our dedication to biodiversity and protecting native habitats for our smallest critters. 🌏 Community Engagement! Engaging with Canberrans has been at the heart of our work in 2024. From educational campaigns, grant programs, consultations and events - our team continues to increase opportunities and ways in which people can get involved in their local environmental programs, take action at home (hint: make your next choice electric and get the leaves out of your road gutters!). I am grateful for the hard work and dedication of our team and their innovation and desire to continue to increase awareness, knowledge and action in our community. #Sustainability #Environment #ACTGovernment #Climate #Biodiversity #CommunityEngagement

At Ecology Action, we’re sowing the seeds for a climate-safe future where equity, resilience, and sustainability are at the core. Our work is dedicated to ensuring that the actions we take today lead to thriving communities for generations to come. Through the generosity of our community, we’re able to empower transformative initiatives that drive climate action and community resilience. In the coming weeks, we’ll spotlight three of these initiatives: Modo: Active Transportation for All – Modo is an active transportation platform powered by Ecology Action’s decades of transportation experience. This initiative brings together programs designed to empower both youth and adults to embrace walking, biking, and sustainable transportation as their preferred modes of travel. Climate Justice Collaborative: Advancing Equitable Solutions – Through the Climate Justice Collaborative, we collaborate with regional community-based organizations to support vital frontline groups. Together, we co-create equitable climate projects, proposals, and policies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions while addressing social justice disparities. Resilient Central Coast: Scalable Climate Solutions – Our Resilient Central Coast initiative ensures that communities have the resources to implement meaningful sustainable actions. These efforts create collective global impacts and drive critical progress throughout the Central Coast. On Day 3 of World Environmental Health Week 2024. Today, we highlight the crucial role of Sundarbans' mangroves in protecting both the environment and local communities. With their widespread, dense root systems, mangroves prevent soil erosion and stabilize coastal regions. When Cyclone Aila struck on May 25th, 2009, it ravaged 778 square kilometers of land in the Sundarbans, but the areas with mangrove cover were spared, proving how vital these trees are in buffering the impact of extreme weather. Since Aila, local communities have taken it upon themselves to plant mangrove saplings, working tirelessly to restore the forest and protect their homes. Recanteur shares the stories of these communities, connecting their efforts to a global audience and driving action for environmental preservation. Too often, development and environmental protection are pitted against each other.🤯The fact is, we need BOTH a growing, thriving economy and a healthy environment. And it’s possible to have both.💯 In California right now, we know we need to build more housing🏠 & infrastructure⚡️ while protecting nature and our unique biodiversity, so how do we do it? Good planning is the answer.💡 Today, I spent time w/ experts who are developing Habitat Conservation Plans (HCPs) & Natural Community Conservation Plans (NCCPs) in their regions. These plans help protect imperiled animals and plants🦅🌿 (protected as Endangered Species) while enabling housing, clean energy, water projects and other infrastructure to get built.👷🏼♀️ HCPs help meet federal environmental regs while NCCPs are unique to California and provide broader ecosystem protection while enabling infrastructure projects. More on NCCPs: https://lnkd.in/gR8WNTZA When done right, these plans help speed up needed projects AND more comprehensively protect local nature.🙌🏽 That’s why NCCPs and HCPs are a key part of our #30x30 conservation strategy and our infrastructure streamlining work. Kudos to several visionary counties in California that have or are developing NCCPs and HCPs.👏🏼 Now we need to help more of these plans get down across the state!🚀

The International Mother Earth Day reminds us of how we're all connected to the planet and why it's so important to take care of it. In rural communities, this day is extra important because the environment affects their lives directly. When the environment is healthy, it helps people in rural communities thrive and be successful. It also serves as a call to action for rural communities to embrace sustainable practices that promote both environmental conservation and community development. Through initiatives such as agroforestry, water conservation, and eco-friendly agriculture, rural residents can protect the earth while simultaneously enhancing their own resilience and prosperity. On this day, let us reaffirm our commitment to nurturing the relationship between rural communities and the earth. By fostering stewardship and respect for the environment, we can create a future where rural development flourishes in harmony with nature, ensuring a legacy of abundance for generations to come. #MotherEarthDay #RuralResilience #SustainableCommunities #GreenRuralFuture #HarmonyWithNature #MondayMonday #EarthFriendlyRural #SustainableDevelopment #GAF

"Verified Impact (formerly Ecosystem Services Claims) is FSC’s evolving approach to monitoring, conservation, and improvement of ecosystem services in forests. This upgraded system will help businesses, governments and forest managers access and disclose high-integrity forest data from FSC-certified forests. By investing in monitoring and improvement projects in FSC forests they unlock the data and stories needed to show their true forest impacts. "
