A Battle Against Trash: Can 13 Teams Conquer 100,000 Pounds in the Southeast? On September 7th, a green army of volunteers will wage war against a silent enemy: the relentless tide of trash that threatens to engulf our National Forests. Armed with gloves, bags, and an unyielding spirit, they'll embark on a mission to reclaim over 150 miles of trails and campsites across 10 states. This is the 3rd annual "Sweep Up the Southeast," a bold initiative led by the Venture Unknown Foundation (VUF). Since 2023, they've already liberated over 70,000 pounds of litter from nature's embrace. But this year, the stakes are higher than ever. VUF Chairman Sean Clark emphasizes the deeper purpose behind their efforts: "We’re committed to improving public lands in our National Forests through action... Our goal is to foster collaboration and education to protect our public lands.” 13 teams, spread across 12 National Forests, will face a daunting challenge: to remove a staggering 100,000 pounds of debris. The task is immense, but their resolve is unwavering. Every rusted can, every discarded tire, every shard of plastic represents a victory in this fight for preservation.
