Supporting Our Veterans: Bridging the Gap to Employment Did you know that about half of post-9/11 veterans find it challenging to readjust to civilian life? As the Workforce Case Manager for U.S. Vets, I see firsthand the hurdles our heroes face when transitioning from military to civilian careers. The Challenge: Transition Difficulties: 48% of veterans report difficulties in readjusting to civilian life. Employment Struggles: Over two-thirds of veterans identify finding a job as their greatest challenge. Higher Unemployment: Young veterans (18-24) often face higher unemployment rates compared to their civilian peers. At U.S. Vets, we are dedicated to supporting veterans in their journey to secure meaningful employment. We provide resources and guidance to help translate military skills into valuable assets for civilian employers. I am looking to collaborate with hiring managers who are passionate about supporting our veterans. If you are interested in connecting talented veterans with job opportunities, please reach out to me or visit my profile for more information. Let’s work together to ensure our veterans receive the opportunities they deserve. #VeteranEmployment #HiringHeroes #Veterans

"Navigating Life After Service: Understand Veterans' Job Hunt Challenges" Leaving the military and stepping into civilian employment is a journey filled with unique challenges. Veterans bring a wealth of experience and skills, but translating these into the civilian job market isn't always straightforward. 1. Language Barrier: Military terminology doesn't always align with civilian job descriptions, making it difficult for veterans to showcase their skills effectively. 2. Cultural Shift: The transition from a highly structured military environment to the often less regimented civilian workplace can be daunting. 3. Underemployment: Many veterans find themselves in roles that don't fully utilise their capabilities, often because employers underestimate their experience. 4. Mental Health: Dealing with experiences from their service can sometimes pose additional hurdles in the job search and retention. At JobOppO, we're committed to bridging these gaps. We focus on helping veterans articulate their skills, find meaningful employment, and provide a supportive network. Let's start a conversation - what more can we do to support our veterans? Share your thoughts in the comments. #VeteranEmployment #SupportOurVeterans #JobOppO

Tomorrow marks Hire A Veteran Day, but every day is an opportunity to consider veteran job seekers. According to LinkedIn's 2023 Veteran Opportunity Report, veterans are 27% less likely to leave their first job within the first 6 months compared to nonveterans. While veteran unemployment is low at 2.9% in June 2024, underemployment remains a significant issue. On average, it takes veterans 17 (!!!) years to achieve their first Director role, compared to 9 years for nonveteran new graduates. There is a noticeable gap in understanding military experience and translating skills to the corporate world. A recent conversation with a 15-year veteran highlighted the challenges veterans face during transitions. He shared his experience of interviewing for roles that pay half of what he earned in the military. This disparity underscores the need for better support in bridging the gap between military service and civilian opportunities. I encourage you to read LinkedIn's report below and start the conversation internally in your organizations on how you can better support this underutilized talent pool. And for the algorithm- a pic of my favorite veteran, my dad. #Veterans #EmploymentOpportunities #MilitaryTransition #VeteranHiring #Underemployment

Calling on my extended LinkedIn network: Veterans are near and dear to my heart, but this one is extra special to me as I’m excited that my daughter (Nicole Carrion), after 5 1/2 years of service in the US Navy, is transitioning out of the military. I'm beyond proud of her and reaching out on her behalf to ask my broader network to assist with her transition from military to civilian. If you can offer any assistance in her transition - please connect with her directly. 🙏 ASSISTANCE Appreciated: Guidance on resume, navigating the veteran-to-civilian transition, and connecting with organizations that value military experience would be greatly appreciated. 🌐 Seeking OPPORTUNITIES: She’s eager to transition into civilian roles within the IT field (within the next month or so). She is a cleared resource. If you know of any openings or have insights on remote positions or opportunities in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area, please reach out to her! 🔥 SKILLS - As a Fire Controlman (Tomahawk), she brings a unique set of skills and experiences that would be invaluable to an organization/team: Technical Expertise: Her military training has honed her technical prowess, especially in handling complex systems and equipment. Problem-Solving: Whether it’s troubleshooting missile systems or analyzing data, she excels at finding solutions under pressure. Leadership: As part of a tight-knit team, she’s led and motivated her fellow servicemembers to achieve mission success. Adaptability/Growth Mindset: Military life demands flexibility, and she’s adept at adapting to changing environments and challenges. Attention to Detail: From maintaining critical systems to ensuring safety protocols, precision is second nature to her. As always, thank you for your support and helping empower our veterans as they embark on new journeys! Thanks in advance! #veterantransition #westillserve #empowerourveterans

Last week was National Hire a Veteran week. Do you know WHY there's a day dedicated to awareness of hiring veterans? Because it was recognized that veterans and military spouses have Huge underemployment and unemployment rates, respectively. There is a difference in unemployed and underemployed and you should know what it is. Underemployed: A decorated cryptologic technician (Navy veteran) "slinging chicken wings" at Popeyes. A security forces (Marine veteran) cleaning pools. There's nothing wrong with these jobs, but they are not on-level with the skills and expertise these veterans acquired in their years of service. These are the jobs they took to feed their families when they couldn't find work after service. Ask me how I know. Unemployed: You know what this means. And after everything our veterans and military spouses go through to serve our country, there is NO reason this should be a measurable demographic. They have skills and agility, leadership experience, education and work history that proves they're hard-working, dedicated, driven and disciplined. And have you Ever met anyone more dedicated to teamwork than the military? They Should be at the top of your hiring list. And not just on National Hire a Veteran day. #hire #veteran #militaryspouse #unemployment #underemployed #career
