This new study explores undergraduate Entrepreneurship Education Programmes (EEPs) adopting a novel approach combining datasets to understand impact on student outcomes. Entrepreneurship Education (EE) has grown significantly in universities over the past 40 years, but there is limited literature connecting EE interventions to impacts outside of specific contexts. #Methodology: Benchmarking approach used to explore hypotheses and compare programs. 78 UK undergraduate EEPs identified and data collected on program details. Core modules categorised into subject themes using Common Aggregation Hierarchy. Descriptive statistics and t-tests used to summarise data and determine differences between groups #Hypotheses: - Entrepreneurship is largest core subject theme but does not represent majority of content - EEP students are less satisfied than counterparts in other business and university programs - EEPs have significantly lower one-year continuation rates than national and business degree averages - EEP students have higher employability rates than other business degree students - EEP students have significantly lower initial earnings than national graduate average. #Conclusions: Suggests EEP designers may need to reconsider structure and practices to improve student outcomes. Identifies several avenues for further quantitative and qualitative research on EE. Contrary to expectations, EEPs do not show higher continuation rates, meriting further investigation. In today’s dynamic knowledge economy, the concept of an Entrepreneurial University is revolutionizing higher education. These aren’t just places of learning—they’re powerhouses of innovation, driving economic growth and making a real impact on society. So, what sets these universities apart? Turning Ideas into Impact: Entrepreneurial Universities bridge the gap between research and real-world impact. From creating intellectual property and patents to launching spin-off companies, they ensure that academic breakthroughs fuel economic and social progress. Entrepreneurship in Every Classroom: Here, entrepreneurial thinking isn’t an add-on; it’s at the core of every discipline. Students dive into courses on entrepreneurship and innovation management and get hands-on experience through incubators, accelerators, and their own startups. Partnerships That Drive Progress: Collaboration is the name of the game. These universities forge strong partnerships with industry, government, and other key players, opening doors to research opportunities, funding, internships, and career paths that boost regional and national growth. A Culture of Innovation: Risk-taking, creativity, and innovation are in the DNA of Entrepreneurial Universities. They provide the support needed—whether through dedicated entrepreneurship offices, innovation hubs, or funding—to turn bold ideas into reality. Engaging Beyond the Campus: These universities don’t just exist within their walls. They’re deeply connected to their communities, tackling real societal challenges through applied research, social enterprises, and public-private partnerships. Why Does This Matter? In a world that demands relevance, Entrepreneurial Universities are aligning their work with the needs of both the economy and society. They’re not just preparing students for jobs—they’re empowering them to create jobs, drive innovation, and lead regional and economic growth. Are you ready to be part of the future? #EntrepreneurialUniversity #InnovationInEducation #HigherEducation #KnowledgeEconomy #UniversityInnovation #EconomicGrowth #Entrepreneurship #IndustryCollaboration #CommunityEngagement

I've been waiting for someone to ask why an entrepreneurship educator is so interested in the future of universities. Finally, someone did! Here's what I explained: Exposing every student to entrepreneurship isn't a big enough goal. We have to change universities. Entrepreneurship education and its pedagogies are pilots for the future of university education. Why do universities so frequently showcase their entrepreneurship centres in recruitment materials? Because it's the most future-oriented part of the university. In the future, all education will look like entrepreneurship education today. Here’s why: 🔹 Active Learning: Entrepreneurship education is hands-on and experiential. It moves beyond passive learning to engage students in real-world problem-solving, project-based learning, and practical applications. Future university education will adopt this active learning approach, making learning more dynamic and impactful. 🔹 Interdisciplinary Approach: Entrepreneurship education integrates various disciplines, encouraging students to draw connections across fields. This holistic perspective is crucial for innovation and will be central to future education, breaking down silos and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. 🔹 Real-World Relevance: Entrepreneurship programs often involve partnerships with industry, providing students with direct exposure to market needs and challenges. This real-world relevance ensures that learning is applicable and valuable, a trend that will become the norm in university education. 🔹 Adaptability and Resilience: The entrepreneurial mindset focuses on adaptability, resilience, and problem-solving in the face of uncertainty. These competencies are essential for navigating the rapidly changing landscape of the future, and education will increasingly focus on developing these skills. 🔹 Innovation and Creativity: Entrepreneurship centres are hotbeds of innovation and creativity, encouraging students to think outside the box and develop novel solutions. Future education will prioritise creativity and innovation, equipping students with the skills to thrive in a constantly evolving world. 🔹 Network and Community Building: Entrepreneurship education emphasises building networks and communities, connecting students with mentors, peers, and industry professionals. This network-centric approach will foster a collaborative and supportive learning environment for future education. By embracing these elements, future university education will be more engaging, relevant, and effective in preparing students for future challenges and opportunities. So, that's why I’ve been posting about Vision 2050 – the future of universities. What entrepreneurship educators are doing isn't just about entrepreneurship anymore. The stakes are much higher. We are pioneering a new era in tertiary education. #FutureOfEducation #Entrepreneurship #Innovation #HigherEducation #Vision2050 #Leadership

The PitchBook MBA rankings for 2024 have been out for a month or two, highlighting the critical role MBA programs specifically and business schools in general play in driving innovation and their broader impact on national economies. As expected, the U.S. dominates the list, far ahead of any other country. Israel, France, the UK, India, and China are distant runners-up, each with three MBA programs making the cut. Aside from a few notable European and Canadian schools (Esade, Rotman, IE), there's a noticeable absence of MBA programs from Asia, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and other regions. As I’ve often said, Europe tends to talk a lot about innovation but doesn’t do much in practice. Among the Indian schools, ISB leads the charge, ranked 20th, with IIM-B and IIM-C also featured. When adjusted for purchasing power parity (PPP), these institutions may have outperformed many others on the list—a conjecture worth exploring. As for Australian business schools, they could perform much better if university administrators stopped treating them as mere cash cows. But that’s a discussion for another time! #innovation #economy #businessschools #startups

This shift is largely driven by both government and EU investments, with a focus on fostering entrepreneurial activity that fuels economic growth. Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) have responded by offering an increasing diversity of programs, modules, and extra-curricular activities designed to help students develop their entrepreneurial mindsets. From regional and national competitions to practical business challenges, students are gaining invaluable exposure to real-world experiences, connecting with external stakeholders, and even starting businesses while still in school. However, while the momentum is undeniable, there are still challenges in embedding enterprise and entrepreneurship across disciplines outside of traditional business and management. 🌱 The Evidence is Clear: Entrepreneurial Skills Matter Emerging research continues to highlight the importance of fostering entrepreneurial competencies—not just for those looking to start their own ventures, but for all students aiming to thrive in the workforce. 🔍 Key Highlights from the Latest Case Study Series: In this second series of case studies, we explore a range of emerging initiatives that are helping to bridge the gap between enterprise education and diverse academic disciplines. If you are involved in enterprise or entrepreneurship education, I suggest you find time to read this paper by good EE friends. It will be worth the time spent reading it. You might also like to respond to Matthew Rogers-Draycott.
Are you passionate about the transformative power of enterprise and entrepreneurship education? Do you believe in the potential of these approaches to change lives? If so, I want to engage you with some ground-breaking insights from our latest paper which has just been published in the MDPI Journal of Education Sciences. The paper explores Entrepreneurship Education Programmes (EEPs) offered by UK universities assessing their structure and impact. The study is unique in its application of publicly available data to assess these features nationally. The paper highlights several interesting features of these programmes: 1. Despite a strong emphasis on entrepreneurship, there's a surprising scarcity of specialised modules within EEPs. 2. EEP students report lower satisfaction levels when compared to their peers studying for business degrees. 3. Anticipated higher continuation rates in EEPs remain elusive. 4. EEP graduates boast commendable employability rates, though they often face lower initial earnings. Our findings invite further research across several lines of inquiry, and I want you, my network, to dive into this discussion with us. Please read the paper here: https://lnkd.in/enbn-XsW Please dissect our findings, share your experiences, and help us to envision an educational framework for EEPs that truly empowers the next generation of enterprising and entrepreneurial graduates. Huge thanks to my co-authors David Bozward, Kelly Smith, Mokuba Mave, Vic Curtis & Dean Maragh. #Entrepreneurship #Education #Innovation #EEP #Enterprise
