Always good to start a fresh new week with good news! We spotted this on Bizcommunity.com on 24 May. It is also fantastic news for our events industry due to how we are interconnected to travel and tourism. Travelers attending events are more and more mixing business with leisure tourism. Whilst they are actually business travelers, they connect to different sectors of the tourism and hospitality industry and regarded as part of the fast-growing 'bleisure' sector. 𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒: SA emerges as Africa’s Top Tourism Economy in 2024 TTDI "The Department of Tourism has announced that South Africa has achieved the highest ranking in the African region in the Travel & Tourism Development Index (TTDI) according to the World Economic Forum. This recognition comes as the country’s tourism industry continues to navigate rapid economic recovery and efforts to boost tourism growth. The Travel & Tourism Development Index (TTDI) 2024 is the second edition of an index by the World Economic Forum and was released earlier this week where South Africa was ranked 55th among 119 countries and emerged as the leading country in the rankings for the African continent. The TTDI findings revealed that South Africa is home to the largest travel and tourism economy in Africa." https://lnkd.in/dPSP5gjX #Travel #tourism #news #business #events

Agreed, there are many economic development and employment opportunities in tourism.. in so many regions. There are strengths in numbers and collaborating together to get to the economic results required to sustain communities that are tourist-centered. With climate changes taking a toll on some activities, innovative ideas are needed to promote new tourism offerings to stay ahead of the game.
Canadian destinations play a pivotal role in attracting tourists from around the globe, offering a diverse range of natural wonders, cultural experiences, and urban adventures. Did you know that Canada welcomed a record 22 million international overnight visitors in 2019? In 2022, global visitors grew to 12.8 million but remained 42% fewer than in 2019. As tourism in Ontario and Canada still has not recovered fully, it’s now the most crucial time for building awareness of the value and economic contribution that destination organizations make to our communities. We thank Destination Toronto and Andrew Weir for celebrating the National Tourism Week with us! #GoGreen #TourismWeekCanada2024

In 2023, the Caribbean saw a 14.3% increase in international tourists, marking a significant recovery from the pandemic. The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) credits this rise to strong demand from the U.S., enhanced tourism infrastructure, effective marketing, and more flights to the region, though not evenly spread across all destinations. Tourism from the U.S. played a major role, fully bouncing back with a 12.7% growth and 16.3 million visitors. Canada and Europe also saw significant recoveries, with Canada’s tourism increasing by 46.1% from the previous year. Despite challenges in regional travel costs and capacity, intra-Caribbean visits grew. The Caribbean's resilience is underscored by adaptability and diverse tourist offerings, attracting visitors with its safety and variety. Despite obstacles like high travel costs and geopolitical tensions, the outlook for 2024 is optimistic, with expected tourist arrivals to rise by 5% to 10%, potentially reaching up to 35.4 million visitors.
