Last week, I had a chance to chat with several HR professionals at a job fair in the City of Lethbridge. About 30% of the companies employed a CPHR holder, 30% had a CPHR candidate on staff, and the most of the remaining 40% were not associated with CPHR but were knowledgeable about CPHR Alberta. I’d estimate that 10% of the companies present did not have an HR person on the team. They were represented by operations, sales or ownership. The conversations led to a discussion about the value of the designation versus the cost of obtaining it and whether it is worth it. I went the NKE route, and all in, it cost about $2000-$2500 at the time for study materials, the test, and fees, along with about four months of study. Going the university route is considerably cheaper, as you don’t need the NKE. In return, holders generally benefit in many ways. I thought these figures from a 2021 CPHR wage survey help demonstrate the value with data. ▪️In Canada, average annual salary is $91k ▪️Those with an HR designation have higher salaries, on average, than those without ($96K vs. $77K) ▪️Designation is perceived as valuable, with 73% of respondents saying that it has benefited their HR career ▪️89% are salaried full-time employees ▪️83% of respondents agree they have the tools they need to do their job properly ▪️ Those with a CPHR designation are more likely to hold a job at the management level (54% with vs. 37% without) In my mind the value is far outweighed by by the cost. Thousands of Job Opportunities Available for Young Workers in Hanoi On March 20, the Hanoi Employment Service Center in cooperation with Dong A University organized a specialized job fair called “Youth Month Recruitment Festival 2024”. This event is in response to Vietnam Youth Month 2024 and aims to meet the recruitment needs of businesses in Hanoi for high-quality, specialized workforce in fields such as construction, refrigeration, food technology, tourism, electricity and water, pharmaceuticals and nursing. The job fair offers 2,356 job openings from 64 participating businesses. 41 of these businesses are present at Dong A University, while the rest are connected online to the Hanoi Employment Service Center. The participating businesses come from various sectors such as trade and services, manufacturing, restaurants and hotels, and construction, catering to the job seeking needs of workers and students looking for additional income. The job openings cover a wide range of positions such as pharmaceutical representatives, technical staff, sales staff, accountants, receptionists, chefs, and tour operators. In addition, there are job openings for graduating students such as marketing, accounting, administrative staff, mechanical and electrical engineers, information technology, human resources interns, and design interns. Participating businesses from various fields and professions. Most of the job openings require candidates with intermediate or higher education, with vocational and technical workers accounting for the highest percentage at 44.7%. On the other hand, the demand for low-skilled labor is relatively low, at around 2%. According to the Hanoi Employment Service Center, job openings with high incomes of 10 million VND or more per month mainly focus on information technology, business, management, engineers, supervisors, and department heads for experienced and skilled workers capable of handling high work pressure. The most common income segment is between 7-10 million VND per month, accounting for around 40% of total job openings. The remaining job openings offer incomes of 5-7 million VND per month or are negotiable. The negotiated salary depends on factors such as skills, experience, education level, and job position to ensure the needs and rights of workers. Navigating Futures in Career Guidance Provision in PES – Global Insights from the WAPES/ICCDPP Career Guidance Survey open webinar about the survey results.
