Lincolnshire Co-operative pledges support for Horizon Youth Zone Lincolnshire Co-operative is the latest local business to champion the town’s young people, by becoming a Founder Patron of Horizon Youth Zone. As a Founder Patron, Lincolnshire Co-operative will contribute towards the charity’s annual running costs, which will enable the new Youth Zone to offer first class facilities, opportunities and support for thousands of young people living in and around Grimsby. The partnership formed after Lincolnshire Co-Op’s CEO, Alison Hands, was given a tour of HideOut Youth Zone in Manchester. Having seen the facilities and hands on support it offered young people, Alison and her team wanted to help provide that same opportunity for the young people of Grimsby. Interested in Unrestricted Funding? 🌟 At the heart of building equitable relationships between funders and charities lies Unrestricted Funding. Defined as grants that can be "spent or applied at the discretion of the trustees to further any of the charity’s purposes"; it is a key factor in empowering charities to achieve their long term charitable mission. This is an insightful piece of research from the Institute For Voluntary Action Research , on the impact of unrestricted funding. Here are the highlights: - A review of various approaches and definitions of impact - A practical framework for assessing the impact of unrestricted funding - An “open and trusting” approach to improve unrestricted funding impact practice In addition, it includes practical insights from the Lloyds Bank Foundation for England and Wales , Esmée Fairbairn Foundation , Pears Foundation , Peter Minet Trust, and Impetus - Backing the best. Well done to Christopher Mills Mill and the team for this valuable contribution! 🙌 Looking forward to more insight on this during the upcoming webinar on July 11th! The story so far... April 2023 Following the initial conversation with a wider group of young people asking the question: What If?, a core group of five young people (18-25) met to plan what this new young person-led organisation could look like. We explored what change we wanted to see in our communities, why we wanted to see it and how to put it into action. As a group we decided that we wanted to commit to: • Reaching young people where they are at; meeting practical and social-emotional needs by building long-term relationships and tailoring support to each individual. • Inviting young people into community and belonging by running positive activities, providing safe spaces, and developing a network of support through local partnerships. • Creating opportunities for young people to build skills, gain experience and lead in shaping change, influencing local strategy and practice. We then committed to the next steps in setting up as a charity, whilst being incubated by Gateway Church Swindon who shared our vision and values. And so WAY was born. #WAY #WAYUK #WAYSwindon #WAYmentors #makelastingchange #volunteerswindon #youngleadersswindon

🔍Where are the “bright spots” and gaps in #PlaceBased #funding? While London and the Northwest see a high concentration of projects, regions like the East of England, East Midlands, and Northern Ireland attract significantly less investment in this work. 💡 Key Insight: It is important to address the issue of regional disparities and consider why these areas don’t attract funding for this type of work to the same extent. Perhaps some places have local charities that are better at making the case for funding? Or, does local political leadership and mayoral authorities make a difference to where funds are allocated by philanthropy? It all leads to the question, what can be done to make funding distribution more equitable across our diverse range of communities. Increasing the alignment between your businesses’ bottom-line interests and the traditional goals of community and economic development (as core to strategy, not CSR or charity) is good business! Check out this summary of a national convening of US Corporates that are doing just that! It was a huge effort to coordinate and brings together fascinating examples that are worth sharing.

PRESS RELEASE City Bridge Foundation, well-known for its care of five iconic bridges over the River Thames and for being London's biggest independent charity funder, have made a commitment to transform young lives. In a significant gesture of support, the Foundation has given a generous grant of £614,500 to XLP, a youth work charity dedicated to working with young people who come from under-served communities. This substantial gift will breathe new life into XLP’s visionary Mobile Youth Centre Project, an initiative housed within three specially designed double-decker buses. These buses go to different estate communities where this is little or no youth provision, and where there are high levels of anti-social behaviour and gang violence, to make sure as many young people get the help they need. This is especially important for young people who might be facing challenging times. Giles Shilson, City Bridge Foundation Chairman, said: “We’re really pleased to be able to support XLP on this project, which takes an innovative approach to getting out into communities and providing support for young people where it’s needed most. “The Mobile Youth Centre is having a positive impact on thousands of young people, helping to boost their self-esteem, skills and relationships, and steering them away from being drawn into gangs or anti-social behaviour.” City Bridge Foundation are not just giving away money, they’re fuelling a movement that will empower thousands of young people. It will help them stay away from getting involved in crime and give them hope for a brighter future. Danielle Widger, Head of Youth Work at XLP, said, “The bus [Mobile Youth Centre] serves the most under-served young people. No one is finding them, which is why they’re at risk of criminal exploitation. But we have a bus that can go and find them, and we can’t do that without this grant. We’re working together to help young people succeed.” The Mobile Youth Centre Project is all about bringing young people in their communities together. It will reach out to communities, help them stay strong, and show young people that they have loads of potential. #PressRelease #YouthWork #London

The evidence submission portal is now live and will be open until the end of the year. ICON is seeking evidence from individuals about the neighbourhoods they live in as well as from organisations such as thinks tanks, academic institutions, charities, community groups, funders and local government. There are five core questions in this initial phase: 1. There are different conceptions/definitions of a neighbourhood, which makes most sense given the Commission’s remit? 2. Why do neighbourhoods matter: what do we know about how different socio-economic needs cluster and interact at the neighbourhood level? 3. How do people experience living in the most deprived neighbourhoods? 4. What are the interventions that have had most impact at a neighbourhood level? 5. What does this mean for building an effective neighbourhood policy both nationally and at regional and local authority levels? For more information and to submit your evidence please go to: https://lnkd.in/e5XvPReh
