FROM THE FIELD FRIDAY | Whio spotting This week’s #FromTheFieldFriday is a special one! While our freshwater team was busy monitoring periphyton in the Mangawhero River, they were treated to a rare and heartwarming sight - a whio (blue duck) family out for a feed. 🦆💧 Seeing these iconic birds in their natural habitat is a reminder of why protecting our waterways is so important. What a stunning moment to capture in the field! ➡️ If you want to learn more about the whio you can head to https://bit.ly/3DeGOe7

Just a friendly reminder that if you see a squirrel running around your roof, it's not necessarily a sign of a critter infestation. It could just be your roof being so awesome, it's attracting wildlife! 😂 You know what's even more awesome? A roof that's leak-free and structurally sound! 😎 Let's chat about how we can make your roof the envy of the neighborhood... and maybe even the squirrels! 🐿️ #RoofingHumor #RoofingLife #HomeImprovement #SquirrelSpotting'

Wildlife presence is an indicator of habitat quality, suggests Artur, hydrobiologist at Rewilding Oder Delta in our film Why Not Scotland?. 🌱 But the natural world is our habitat, too. If wildlife is in decline, what does that mean for humans? 💚 We are part of nature, not apart from it. Let’s restore the natural landscapes we all depend on for food, water and our wellbeing. 🌲 The reintroduction of #wolf into Yellowstone National Park has been incredibly successful. The wolf is a keystone species, which means that the plants and animals within the broader ecosystem depend on the wolf for survival. The reintroduction has decreased elk numbers, which has allowed the over-grazed local vegetation to recover and thrive. ♻️ Think someone could learn from this?
