The National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center (NADRC) is pleased to present two upcoming webinars! On August 12, 2024, from 3:00-4:00 p.m. ET, the NADRC will host the webinar, Dementia Friendly Clark County, Nevada: What Happens in Vegas Affects the World. Dementia Friendly Clark County is a grassroots initiative dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by dementia in the Las Vegas Valley. The initiative focuses on strengthening local communities to become more respectful, educated, supportive, and inclusive of people living with dementia and care partners. However, their impact isn't confined to just the local community. By offering Dementia Awareness Training to Las Vegas hotels and the international airport, they are extending their reach globally. This presentation will illustrate how implementing dementia awareness training in one of the world's most renowned tourist destinations transcends community outreach, fostering a worldwide impact. Additional information about this webinar and the registration form can be found here: https://lnkd.in/gYC9aRS9 -------------- On August 27, 2024, from 2:00-3:00 p.m. ET, the NADRC will host the webinar, Cognitive Stimulation Therapy Programs: Directly Supporting People Living with Dementia. Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) programs are providing direct support to people living with dementia (PLWD) including those with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD), primary progressive aphasia (PPA), and intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The Administration for Community Living’s (ACL) Alzheimer’s Disease Programs Initiative (ADPI) grantees are expanding their services to meet a variety of needs through these evidence-based/informed, small group programs. Through virtual and in-person sessions held over 7 weeks, participants strengthen their retained cognitive abilities and decrease depressive symptoms, while gaining confidence and social connection, and improving their well-being. In this webinar, two organizations will highlight their CST programs while sharing successes, challenges, and lessons learned. CaringKind, a community-based organization in New York City, delivers CST both virtually and in person with an ongoing CST-Maintenance program. CareLink in Rhode Island delivers CST as an outpatient service delivered by skilled clinicians. Having identified gap areas for specialized populations, CareLink is delivering an adapted version of CST for PLWD and IDD and individuals with PPA. Both organizations are seeking to build sustainable models of care through efficient service delivery models that don’t compromise quality care. Additional information about this webinar and the registration form can be found here: https://lnkd.in/gXpaRbuH
Welcome! You are invited to join a webinar: Dementia Friendly Clark County, Nevada: What Happens in Vegas Affects the World. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the webinar.

Lenovo together with Innovations in Dementia, has developed a compassionate new AI tool designed to support people living with Alzheimer’s and dementia—and, just as importantly, their loved ones. Introducing “Liv,” a unique, photorealistic 3D avatar and a first-of-its-kind companion for those recently diagnosed. Available any time of day, Liv offers a warm, understanding presence built on real-life experiences, giving families and caregivers a much-needed resource to help them navigate the ups and downs of daily life, share the diagnosis with others, or explore positive activities to enjoy together. With over 55 million people worldwide living with dementia—and the number steadily increasing—the need for truly accessible and empathetic support has never been greater. This new “Alzheimer’s Intelligence” is trained on real stories gathered from the Dementia Diaries project and in-depth interviews, ensuring the guidance and comfort Liv provides feels not only relevant but deeply human. Liv’s face, crafted through generative AI, was modelled from images of people with dementia to offer a presence that feels familiar and relatable, helping people hold meaningful, natural conversations. Still in trial, this technology has the potential to be an invaluable support for many families, combining tech accessibility with advice that feels genuinely personal and grounded in real-life understanding. Could this kind of resource make a difference for you or your loved ones? Would you consider using Liv as a source of comfort and support? #DementiaSupport #AlzheimersCare #Dementia #Alzheimers #NewTech #AIforGood #CompassionateTech #InnovationsInDementia #Caregiving #MentalHealthSupport #TechForSeniors #LivCompanion #AlzheimersAwareness #AICompanion #DementiaAwareness #AccessibleCare #FamilySupport Alzheimer's Association® Alzheimer's Society Alzheimer Society of Ireland Dementia UK

🌟 Research Spotlight: Tackling Responsive Behaviors in Residents with Dementia One of the most challenging aspects of dementia care is addressing aggressive or as I like to call it—'Responsive behaviors'. These behaviors are often a resident's way of communicating fear, confusion, pain, or unmet needs. Through my research and hands-on experience at Shannex Medley Hall, I’ve identified strategies that empower caregivers to address these behaviors with compassion and effectiveness: 🔑 Understand the Trigger Responsive behaviors often have identifiable causes, such as loud noises, unfamiliar surroundings, or physical discomfort. Observing patterns and addressing these triggers can reduce episodes significantly. 🕊️ Stay Calm and Patient Residents often mirror caregivers' emotions. A calm tone, gentle body language, and a patient approach can de-escalate situations and prevent further agitation. 💬 Validate Their Feelings Acknowledging emotions—without correcting or arguing—can go a long way. Simple statements like, “I understand you’re upset,” help residents feel heard and supported. 🎨 Redirect and Distract Engaging residents in meaningful or calming activities—like flipping through a photo album, listening to their favorite music, or doing a simple task—can help ease their distress. 🫱🏻🫲🏽 Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) I’ve found the GPA method invaluable. By focusing on empathy, non-verbal communication, and offering choices, it helps caregivers diffuse situations while respecting the resident’s dignity. 🤝 Collaborate as a Team Sharing insights with the care team about a resident’s triggers and successful strategies fosters a consistent, supportive environment for the resident. Why This Matters: These strategies don’t just reduce stress for residents and caregivers—they build trust and strengthen relationships. By viewing responsive behaviors as expressions of unmet needs, we can transform care practices into ones that prioritize empathy and person-centered care. What’s Next: I’m committed to continuing my research on dementia care, exploring innovative approaches, and sharing practical solutions with fellow caregivers. Together, we can enhance the quality of life for individuals with dementia. 💙 Inspired daily by the resilience of residents and the dedication of caregivers, I’m more passionate than ever about making a difference in dementia care. #DementiaCare #ResponsiveBehaviors #ElderlyCare #GentlePersuasiveApproach #PersonalSupportWorker #ShannexMedleyHall #Research #PersonCenteredCare #CCA
