Broad-Based BEE has been key in addressing historical economic disparities in South Africa. Hello Africa Matters Community, 👋🏾 Whether you're new here or a familiar face, we are Africa Matters Initiative (AMI), a youth-led organisation committed to upskilling and empowering African youth. As our social media family grows, we want to reintroduce ourselves once more as we reflect on the path we've travelled.🌍🔥 #AfricaMatters was established in 2015 in response to the overwhelmingly negative African narrative surrounding us. We launched AMI as a movement to empower African youth to embrace their identities and the beauty of the continent. During this time, Africa Matters embraced what has become our rallying call to action: "We are the ones we’ve been waiting for", by Alice Walker.✊🏾💥 Today, AMI thrives as a catalyst for change. We're all about empowering and upskilling African youth with the tools they need to drive their futures, contribute to economic transformation and lead community impact. Our holistic approach blends leadership, advocacy, and social entrepreneurship training with community initiatives, fostering skills and understanding. We don't just focus on skills; we foster understanding, ignite social impact, and champion collaborative power, helping young people connect with and contribute to their communities.💡 Currently, we have three active programs: the ShE is Empowered Program, the Africa Matters Ambassadors Program, and the Her Environment, Her Future Program. Through these programs, we create spaces for leadership development, critical dialogue, mentorship, and the exchange of ideas among young Africans that are building social entreprises to advance their communities. Beyond these core activities, our programs foster a strong sense of community that encourages collaboration, amplifies diverse voices, and empowers participants to support and uplift one another. This network of positive change aims to create a lasting impact across the continent. This is why today, after nine years, #africamattersinitiative has impacted over 27,000 young people, partnered with incredible organisations, and worked with amazing individuals who continue to push our mission and vision forward. We celebrated the 24th International Youth Day yesterday to reflect on young people's challenges and recognise their significant impact worldwide. In continuation of that deserved recognition, this post is dedicated to honouring the resilience, passion, and grit of our youth ambassadors and volunteers towards peacebuilding and development across varied Nigeria communities and in the diaspora, and also to the innumerable youth peacebuilders and changemakers who contribute to making our world a better place. Young people globally work, often unnoticed, in diverse areas such as climate change, peacebuilding, human rights, education, equality and inclusion, and security, among others, leveraging technology and digital innovations more than ever. Nevertheless, the challenges facing the youth are numerous, which is why this season is important – to reflect on what is going on in the youth world and give necessary support to advance their voice.  While we look inward to encourage ourselves as a youth-led organisation to keep up our excellent work, we also extend similar encouragement to every youth and youth-led organisation to never give up on transforming our world positively. Weekends are generally for relaxation, however a week ago, I was drawn to this post made by Santher Mbacham and I found it very interesting, especially the discussions around the Africa we want. It’s inspiring to see discussions around the Africa we want, especially in areas crucial for our future. As a youth advocate and communication strategist, I believe we must spotlight the incredible work being done by young people across our communities. Initiatives like the Cameroon Youth Awards play a vital role in showcasing the positive impact of youth engagement. We celebrate young innovators and change-makers who are driving progress in their communities, whether through climate action, digital skills, or mental health initiatives. Addressing the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), I echo the importance of seamless capital flow and unified border controls. But let’s not forget the power of youth-led solutions. By amplifying youth voices and leveraging platforms like the Cameroon Youth Awards we can inspire collective action and forge pathways to economic empowerment. Building inclusive communities starts with understanding and valuing our diverse narratives. Let’s continue to promote cultural sensitivity and use technology to bridge gaps in education and communication. Amidst our unity and diversity, we recognize the vital role education plays in sculpting our continent's future. Educating an African fit for the 21st Century means preparing our youth to grow in a dynamic world. It entails equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and critical thinking abilities to tackle complex challenges and seize emerging opportunities. As a product of my parents' investment in my education, I attest to the transformative power of learning through the years.
