A new article published by HADRI researcher Valentina Baú addresses the role that communication and media interventions can play in fostering social cohesion among displaced populations in camp settings, through a review of both practical and theoretical approaches in this area. The aim of this review is to offer a starting point for humanitarian agencies working in refugee camps to articulate the adoption of a communication-driven approach in their social cohesion programming. 👏 A big thank you to our panel - Rita Larok (AVSI Foundation), Samantha Carter (USAID), Line Astrom (UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency) & Marcus Holmlund (The World Bank) - and the 164 participants who joined us yesterday for the #PEIOpenHouse on how #EconomicInclusion programs can support #refugees and host communities. The rich discussion focused on the crucial role of context in designing and implementing programs in contexts of displacement, highlighting specific factors such as mobility, access to opportunities, and the #policy and market environments. It stressed the importance of starting with a theory of change, actively engaging with the target population, and continuously adapting programs based on robust #datacollection and #monitoring. These elements are vital for tailoring programs effectively to improve #wellbeing, #resilience, and #inclusion in various contexts. Watch the full recording here ⬇ https://lnkd.in/eJEWRhVV

Overcoming learning loss in crisis situations like refugee camps and slums requires innovative approaches. School systems, designed for "normal" settings, may not be suitable. Just as we send paramedics to war zones instead of massive hospitals, Love Your City mobilizes young change makers to build relationships in these communities. These individuals catalyze citywide movements, creating collective impact interventions that support youth in graduating from school. The result? Entire slums and refugee camps see educational levels rise as a whole. #Education #ChangeMakers #Impact #LoveYourCity
