The Department of Social Services has released "the Public Consultation on the Disability Royal Commission Summary Report". The responses received relating to Part C – Inclusive Housing were largely supportive of the recommendations with the exception of the future of Group Homes. There was support for: * "Effective housing and disability policy frameworks (Rec 7.33 - 7.34)". * improved "Housing accessibility and tenancy and occupancy protections (Rec 7.35 -7.37)" including increased supply and availability as well as a housing targeted action plan in Australia’s Disability Strategy. * increased oversight of "Safety in SRS and their equivalents (Rec 7.38)". * more inclusive and alternative models "Preventing and responding to homelessness (Rec 7.39 – 7.40)". * "Improving group homes (Rec 7.41)" including addressing conflicts of interest between SIL and SDA services. * improved "Access to alternative housing options (Rec 7.42)" including enhanced SIL and SDA provider roles. There was a divided views on "Phasing out group homes (7.43-7.44)" ranging from support for a phase out, calls for cultural change in services and time for adjustment to retention in the absence of viable alternatives.

As we raise awareness, let's advocate for affordability and accessibility. Everyone deserves a chance to live their best life without financial barriers. https://buff.ly/3zj7rwx #DisabilityRights #InclusionMatters #AccessibilityForAll

$6.66/day tax-free is still $6.66/day. As Parliament heads into a break, we urge MPs to make increasing the Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) a priority. Do what C-22 intended. Let’s finally bring people with disabilities out of poverty. Demand action! Tell your MP: https://buff.ly/4i0oi98 #BuildABetterBenefit #DisabilityAdvocacy @DisabilityWithoutPoverty

Do as I say, not as I do. For years, Both USAID and the State Department have denied people with disabilities oversea positions. PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES, VARIOUSLY DEFINED, HAVE MOSTLY BEEN AN AFTERTHOUGHT FOR USAID, ROBBING COMMUNITY INVESTMENTS FROM ACTUALIZING VAST STORES OF INTELLIGENCE, PERSEVERANCE AND COURAGE. Read more about the implication of their failed policy that is incomplience with the Rehabilitation of 1974. Read my blog below .

As someone with Jawoyn heritage, who has worked in federal government across First Nations education and employment and who now dedicates their career to the NFP sector, the theme #nowmorethanever rings true. - 37% of First Nations people report having a mental health condition (2018-19) - 33% of people incarcerated are First Nations (2023) - First Nations people have a life expectancy of up to 8.8 years less than non-First Nations. (2020-22) These are just some numbers to show that reconciliation is one of the important pathways important in ensuring equality.

🚨An important update: the much-awaited formal Australian Government response to the #DisabilityRoyalCommission recommendations was released today. While all state and territory governments have accepted, or accepted in principle, the majority of the 85 recommendations within shared responsibility, it is disappointing that only 13 recommendations have been accepted in full at this stage. While the announcement today is encouraging, the true test will be whether governments can deliver the coordinated and sensible reforms needed for a sustainable sector. NDS is committed to ensuring that the progress of these reforms is monitored closely and that governments are held accountable for their commitments.✊ NDS Members can read the full analysis on our website below - which takes a closer look at the Government's initial response, and what's happening next.👇 #DRC #RoyalCommission #auspol #NDIS #Disability https://lnkd.in/g9cGPgee

As the world changes, so do the goals of Indigenous youth reconciliation. If we consider a generous age range of 12-18 to define a "youth," we have 6 total years to serve this population before all their challenges start compounding in adulthood. In Canada, our election cycles are four or five years. This is not conducive to supporting young people through the developmental stage of their lives. Even if you have a priority to serve youth and young adults, even the best developments become outdated quicker than other models because young people are sponges to this rapidly changing world. The only way to get ahead of this is by making proactive commitments that will serve the youth of today AND tomorrow. We need new programs, services, institutions, and organizations that are developed in a way that they grow with the evolving needs of youth. TIME is our most valuable resource, and Frayed Feathers works collaboratively with you to sprint towards reconciliACTION. #FrayedFeathers #Indigenous #IndigneousYouth #YouthReconciliation #Reconciliation #GovernmentofCanada #IndigenousPolicy #Policy #Advocacy
