Italian VC Primo Ventures raises $40 million to invest in early stage climate startups #PrimoVentures has announced the first closing of its new venture capital fund, Primo Climate, raising over €40 million to invest in early-stage startups in the climatetech sector. The fund, managed by partners Ezio Ravaccia, Giusy Cannone, and Simone Molteni, aims to accelerate the ecological transition by targeting a total of €60 million. Backed by CDP Venture Capital SGR, the Green Transition Fund, and resources from the NextGeneration EU initiative, Primo Climate focuses on stimulating innovation in green transition sectors. The fund is set to support companies developing cutting-edge technologies in areas such as solar energy, alternative mobility, lithium batteries, green hydrogen, renewable energy, and geothermal solutions. The partners, who collectively bring 75 years of experience in investment and sustainability, emphasize the importance of being key players in the industrial revolution of climate technology. With scouting activities already underway, Primo Climate aims to announce its first investments in the latter half of the year. Agostino SCORNAJENCHI, CEO of CDP Venture Capital, highlighted the long-term commitment to promoting sustainable technologies that address environmental challenges. Primo Climate will leverage its partnership with LifeGate, a sustainability leader in Italy, to provide advisory support and develop methodologies for accurately measuring emissions reduction. Primo Climate plans to invest in 10-13 companies, focusing on sectors like energy efficiency, renewables, mobility, circular economy, waste management, and energy storage. The fund's activities will primarily concentrate on Italy, enhancing the country's resilience and international standing in sustainability. Gianluca Dettori, president of Primo Ventures, expressed pride in expanding their independent investment platform with this fourth vertical dedicated to climate tech. He underscored the significance of climate tech for Italy's economic development, aiming to invest in pioneering Italian companies that create jobs and drive economic growth.
