Did you know that ICES welcomes proposals from ICES Members for initiatives that aim to foster #EuropeanStudies at the Europa-Universität Flensburg by expanding EUF’s research infrastructure, promoting early career #researchers, or strengthening academic #networking? 🌍📚✨ This includes: 1) Preparation of a #thirdparty funding application 📑💼 We support applications for an interdisciplinary collaborative research project in the field of European Studies. ICES helps you identify suitable funding sources, offers personalised #advice throughout the funding application process, and covers costs for activities that you feel are best suited to prepare a competitive research proposal. 2) International Conferences 🌐🎤 We welcome proposals from EUF researchers and ICES members interested in organising an international #conference at the EUF in the field of European Studies and intending to apply for DFG funding within their programme "International Scientific Events". ICES will support you in setting up the proposal and will #finance the conference in case your proposal is not successful! 3) (Researchers in Residence) Fellowships 🏠👩🔬 This opportunity is aimed at ICES members who wish to invite renowned colleagues in the field of European Studies to foster interdisciplinary #collaboration, develop project ideas or forthcoming publications, and support innovative research in European studies. The fellowship provides financial support to cover travel and accommodation for the visiting scholar. 4) #OpenAccess Fees 💸📖 You can apply for funding to cover Open Access Fees up to €3000 per publication. Funding can be granted if 1) the research article is produced in the context of scientific activities at ICES; 2) the journal/publisher is internationally renowned and fulfils recognized quality assurance standards; 3) the article has already been submitted and you are "submitting author" or "corresponding author" responsible for paying the publication fees. 5) Research infrastructure 🛠️🔬 This call is not meant to be restrictive regarding the type of activity, initiative, or affiliation. The proposed measures should, however, be relevant not only to individual members but should be interesting and accessible to other members as well. We generally (co-) fund ideas with up to €3,000. Exceptions can be made in well-justified cases. Submit your proposals and be part of this exciting journey to advance European Studies! 🌟🗺️ 👉 Further info: https://lnkd.in/d9fcCeXB

At the upcoming International Society for Third Sector Research Conference in Antwerp (16-19 July), the Pracademic Development Initiative will host three sessions: Session 1: Using a participatory fishbowl methodology, one session will explore the distinct qualities of pracademics that make them effective in driving change. This innovative ‘free to take part’ conference approach will facilitate an in-depth discussion on how pracademics leverage their unique skills and positions to create impactful outcomes. Convenor: Dr. Willem Elbers Date/Time: Friday, 19 July (14:00pm-15:30pm) Session title: Pracademia in the third sector Session 2: In a roundtable format, another session explores pracademia, the institutional context of being a pracademic. Universities are increasingly prioritising civic engagement and real-world impact, heightening attention on pracademics who bridge academic research, teaching and development-related practice. Yet institutional barriers often hinder pracademics from achieving external impact. This open set-up will explore organisational conditions that best empower pracademics to fulfil this bridging role through engaged scholarship. Convenor: Dr. Angela Crack Date/Time: Friday, 19 July (11:00am-12:30pm) Session title: How should academic institutions support pracademic work Session 3: A third, more conventional conference format of a panel provides an opportunity for individuals to present their positionality and work in context. The papers include and combine personal journeys and pathways into a pracademic roles, including examples of impact as a change agent as well as obstacles encountered in real life practice. Examples come from Hong Kong, Argentina, The Netherlands and, to be confirmed, Cameroon and Zambia. Convenor: Professor Alan Fowler Date/Time: Tuesday, 16 July (12:00pm-13:30pm) Session title: Pracademia: Impacts and Pathways #ISTR2024 #Research4Practice

EUA has welcomed the Expert Group’s findings, particularly their call to increase and protect the budget allocation for the tenth R&I framework programme (#FP10), while advising careful consideration of certain recommendations, for example the proposal to create new councils to respectively address industrial competitiveness and societal challenges. Also in recent weeks, EUA was pleased to celebrate the 30th anniversary of our Institutional Evaluation Programme IEP at an event in Brussels. A special anniversary publication is now available for your perusal. Registrations are now open for the 2025 European Learning & Teaching Forum (#EUALearnTeach), on the theme of ‘2030 and beyond: towards responsive and adaptable higher education’. Taking place on 27-28 February, at University College Cork in Ireland, this future-oriented edition of the Forum will focus on strategies to develop future-readiness in and through learning and teaching. For members of EUA's Council for Doctoral Education (#EUACDE), you can also now register for the 2025 EUA-CDE Thematic Workshop (#cdeWS2025). This event will tackle the topic of ‘Establishing and advancing equity, diversity and inclusion in doctoral education’, on 16-17 January at the Universidade do Minho, Portugal. In addition, EUA-CDE is currently inviting applications from member institutions to host key events in 2026 and 2027. Registrations are open for several newly-announced EUA webinars. We hope that many of you will be able to join us online for our upcoming events on support for researchers at risk, #OpenScience in the European Research Area (EUA members only), and academic careers. Read also: For Karl Tombre, universities need broad innovation strategies to tackle the immense challenges of this century, but this means looking beyond the technology transfer office and moving past outdated concepts. His #EUAExpertVoices article is available at This #DoctoralDebate article by Åse Gornitzka and Bjørn Stensaker, University of Oslo, pinpoints three areas where universities can support doctoral candidates and early-career researchers as they navigate new frameworks. I had the amazing opportunity to attend an interactive conference organized by the League of Romanian Students Abroad (LSRS) United Kingdom at the Romanian Cultural Institute in partnership with Tinerii Votează. **ABOUT:** The conference brought together representatives of Romanian authorities, prominent members of the Romanian academic community in the UK, and specialists in civic participation. We explored the importance of voting and the vital role of research communities in promoting active and informed citizen engagement. The event also marked the launch of the Association of Romanian Researchers in the United Kingdom. This provided an opportunity to discuss the benefits of such an association and a strong scientific community, highlighting the remarkable success of Romanian researchers in the UK. Miss Ambassador to the UK, Laura Popescu spoke about the importance of young people voting and the significance of the young research community. We also had a debate on why voting is important, how it changes our society when young people get involved, and effective ways to encourage this involvement. Later, we had a panel featuring PhD students: George Obada, a Biomedical Engineering PhD student at King's College London, and Alexandra Lacatusu a BioIntegrated Design student at UCL They answered the following questions: **Research Focus:** - "Can you tell me more about your research and what inspired you to choose this topic?" - "What are the main goals and potential impacts of your research?" **Challenges and Experiences:** - "What has been the most challenging aspect of your PhD journey so far?" - "How do you manage setbacks or challenges in your research?" **Academic Environment:** - "How do you find the academic environment and support at King's?" - "What resources or support systems at the university have been most helpful to you?" **Practical Advice:** - "Do you have any tips for managing workload and staying motivated during a PhD?" - "What advice would you give to someone considering pursuing a PhD?" **Future Plans:** - "What are your career plans after completing your PhD?" - "How do you think your research will influence your future career?" **Personal Insights:** - "What do you enjoy most about your research?" - "How do you balance your research with other aspects of your life?" We discussed effective ways of organizing and collaborating, encouraging participants to share their ideas and experiences. Don't miss the chance to get actively involved in this vibrant community!
