Researchers at Karolinska Institutet have found a molecule that can both help the intestines to heal after damage and suppress tumor growth in colorectal cancer. The discovery could lead to new treatments for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and cancer. The results are published in the journal Nature.

The cytotoxic effects of chemotherapy are promiscuous and damaging to the entire body, which, ironically, weaken a patient’s natural defences against cancer. Our latest study demonstrates that non-invasive and targetable magnetic fields can enhance doxorubicin uptake into cancer cells without implicating healthy tissues. This novel therapeutic strategy may ultimately allow for the lowering of systemic doxorubicin load and improve a patient’s outcome against cancer. Our sincerest gratitude to NUS Centre for Cancer Research (N2CR) and iHealthtech, National University of Singapore for supporting these studies. #breastcancer #cancerresearch #magneticfieldtherapy #nusresearch #chemotherapy

📍 I am pleased to share our recently published systematic review titled " Response prediction for neoadjuvant treatment in locally advanced rectal cancer patients-improvement in decision-making". The lack of external validation of predictive models is a major issue that can potentially limit the reliability and applicability of predictive models in clinical settings. This paper highlights different externally validated methods of predicting response to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) in locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) patients and how they could improve clinical decision-making. 📄 Thanks to Dr. Luca Boldrini and all other co-authors for their contribution. 😊 😊 😊 . Study Suggests MRI Scans Could Replace Biopsies in Prostate Cancer Screening Could MRI scans replace biopsies in prostate cancer screening? A promising new study from Europe suggests that in some cases, men with elevated PSA levels may be able to skip traditional biopsies and rely on MRI scans instead. For many men, an abnormal prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test result is the first sign of possible prostate #Biopsies #MRI #ProstateCancer >>> Read more
