I am very proud to announce the launch of project HYreland. A pivotal study led by ESB that will analyse the technological and economic potential of producing green hydrogen and its derivates in Ireland, as well as access the potential transportation routes for exporting surplus renewable energy to Germany. It will be delivered alongside the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung and the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications, and marks the first project to action the Joint Declaration of Intent signed between Ireland and Germany, which formalises cooperation in the field of green hydrogen. HYreland is due to be delivered in close collaboration with industry and research partners. The main body of work will be performed by Fraunhofer-Institut für Solare Energiesysteme ISE, a globally recognised German research institute, alongside the IERC - International Energy Research Centre located in Ireland. Input will also be provided by selected associated industrial partners (Wirtschaftsförderung Landkreis Stade GmbH, Hansestadt Stade, duisport - Duisburger Hafen AG and CCI Stade for the Elbe-Weser-Region). As part of ESB's commitment to achieving a net zero future, recognising the vast potential of Irish renewable resources is key. Project HYreland aims to leverage this resource to its fullest extent. This project emphasises Ireland’s dedication to decarbonisation, and showcases the collaborative spirit between Ireland and Germany in reaching their net zero targets. I would like to acknowledge the Projektträger Jülich, Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH, the Ambassador to Ireland, His Excellency David Gill, and Deputy Head of Mission, Mr. Christian Resch, alongside the German-Irish Chamber of Industry & Commerce for their unwavering support and assistance.
