November is Tourism Awareness Month in #Guyana and this year’s theme: ‘A People-Centred Tourism Product: Elevating Our Profile,’ reminds me of an earlier visit to the Rupununi & Essequibo with colleagues of the Compete Caribbean Partnership Facility (CCPF). ✅ In the Rupununi, CCPF is working with local stakeholders and #MSMEs to improve their offering of #Sustainable & #Inclusive tourism experiences that can generate more revenues for the communities. Similarly, the focus in Essequibo is to increase visibility of the county to potential visitors by making the cluster more competitive. ✅ Both projects aim to assist Guyana to develop its tourism sector with strong support of CCPF’s partners – the Inter-American Development Bank, the United Kingdom’s Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office, the Caribbean Development Bank & the Government of Canada. Happy Tourism Month Guyana! 👉 Learn more about the Partnership and its projects in Guyana here: https://lnkd.in/eBCHz9uv

In January, the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) reported on tourism’s economic impact on the country, which included more than 620,000 direct jobs and an estimated generation of foreign exchange of more than USD$11 billion. Figures also showed that the Dominican Republic is the country that has grown the most in tourist arrivals in the Caribbean region from 2019 to date, going from 6.4 million visitors to more than 10 million, and that it’s been recognized by various international organizations as the number one country in terms of post-COVID tourism recovery. A recent World Bank Country Climate and Development Report noted that achieving the Dominican Republic's ambitious climate and development objectives will require cross-cutting measures across multiple dimensions, including its significant tourism sector. The government, however, operates in a constrained environment, which results in a lack of fiscal space to simultaneously meet the need for social programs, environmental protection, and better infrastructure. https://lnkd.in/dT7RYZwH #domincanrepublic #development #climatechange #initiatives #impacts Juan Merino Patricia Suriel José Enrique Delmonte Kennedy Pemberton, MSc. Tourism as a Tool for Peace and Global Understanding... On International Tourism Day, we celebrate tourism as more than just an economic driver—it's a powerful force for peace and cultural diplomacy. By connecting people from diverse backgrounds, tourism promotes mutual respect, breaks down cultural barriers, and fosters global understanding. From Rwanda's ecotourism driving social cohesion post-genocide, to Colombia and Cambodia rebuilding their global images through transformational tourism, destinations around the world have used tourism to heal, educate, and promote peace. Tourism opens informal channels for cultural exchange, from sports events and educational travel to gastronomic tours, making it a vital bridge between nations. #InternationalTourismDay #CulturalDiplomacy #TourismForPeace

Hosting of 'China Ready' workshop by Papua New Guinea Tourism Promotion Authority to Attract More Chinese Tourists Papua New Guinea (PNG) hosted a 'China Ready' workshop on 25th April 2024 to attract more Chinese tourists, aiming specifically to double its Chinese inbound visitors over the next year. The workshop was organized by the PNG Tourism Promotion Authority and supported by the National Capital District Commission. Representatives from educational, tourism, and governmental sectors attended the workshop to collectively strategize on making the country more attractive to Chinese tourists. In addition to this, there are ongoing talks to increase the frequency of flights from Guangzhou to Port Moresby from once a week to three times. Although PNG is facing challenges related to safety and civil unrest that might discourage visitors, it plans to leverage its natural beauty and several attractions to entice tourists. #tpa #leafsplash

🌍 Celebrating World Tourism Day: Harnessing Intellectual Property for Africa’s Tourism Growth 🌍 On World Tourism Day 2024, we celebrate the remarkable recovery and potential of the global tourism sector. According to the latest UNWTO data, international arrivals to Africa increased by an impressive 171% in the first seven months of this year compared to 2021, driven primarily by regional demand. What many may not realize is the critical role Intellectual Property (IP) plays in this growth. IP tools like Geographical Indications (GIs) and collective marks are powerful assets that African nations and local authorities can use to showcase their unique cultural and natural offerings. These labels help attract visitors and investors interested in discovering the craftsmanship of local entrepreneurs and the rich natural resources embedded in the region’s products. By leveraging IP strategically, countries can strengthen their brand identity on the global stage. Producers, artisans, and local collectives protected by OAPI registrations gain a competitive edge, facilitating international branding and boosting market access. As Africa’s tourism continues to thrive, IP will play a key role in promoting sustainable growth, preserving cultural heritage, and driving economic empowerment for local communities. #WorldTourismDay #AfricaTourism #IntellectualProperty #GeographicalIndications #CollectiveMarks #OAPI #CulturalHeritage #SustainableTourism #TourismGrowth
