The American Public Health Association (APHA) sponsors National Public Health Week from April 3 to 9 to recognize the contributions of public health and highlight issues that are important for improving our nation’s health. This year’s theme, Centering and Celebrating Cultures in Health, emphasizes the way different cultures focus on health. As an FQHC, for My Community Health Center, public health is more than just health care. It is all the steps we take to make sure our neighborhoods and environment are healthy. It is making sure our food and water are safe to eat and drink. It is also the relationships we foster in our communities. We are all interconnected. When we all come together to support public health, all of us — individuals, families, communities, and the public health field — can achieve the goals of public health! https://lnkd.in/gHfePk3p #NationalPublicHealthWeek #centeringandcelebratingculturesinhealth #mchc #FQHC

Here are a few lessons I am taking to heart this week! 1. Meet People Where They Are Effective public health starts with understanding communities, their strengths, and their unique challenges. 2. Collaboration Is Key From local volunteers to international partners, public health is a team effort. When we work together, we are stronger, smarter, and more impactful. 3. Stay Curious The public health field is evolving fast. Staying updated on research and innovations keeps our work relevant and effective. #PublicHealth #CommunityHealth #HealthForAll #HealthPromotion PC: Evidence Action

Day 1 of National Public Health Week: April 1st, 2024 Theme: Civic Engagement Pima County Health Department started off the week strong by watching the kickoff forum from the American Public Health Association (APHA). The forum focused on protecting, connecting, and thriving within public health, and the keynote speaker, Pattie Gonia, discussed the intersections that public health owns. My takeaway from the forum was when Pattie Gonia spoke on creating an environment that is like a meadow, not a machine. Rather than speaking about your team/organization like it’s a “well-oiled machine”, we should think of our team/organization as functioning like a well-nurtured meadow. This can be difficult in areas where the system does not prioritize healthy living, but civic engagement can be a way for us to use our voice with our vote. #nphw2024 #nationalpublichealthweekday1 #civicengagement
